My mum has got lung cancer for the third time but this time its spread to her bones (spine & ribs) which is stage 4 (terminal). She had a first session out of 2 for palliative radiotherapy and she was in so much pain after. She has liquid morphine 1mg/ml and 10mg slow releasing tablets. Is there anything else she can have or do to ease the pain?

Chemo is next and I've heard it's awful but it is available privately and heard it is so better. How do I go about getting more info about going private?

TIA

Jo

  • Hi Jo

I'm very sorry to read that your mum is dealing with cancer for the third time and I can appreciate what a difficult time this must be for the whole family.

I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you also post this in the lung cancer group, which I can see you're a member of, as then you'll connect with others who may be able to tell you what pain relief they have for their lung cancer. If this is something that you'd like to do then clicking on the link will take you straight there.

As for getting information on being treated privately, you could have a look and see what private hospitals there are close to where your mum lives and contact them about what costs, etc are involved.

When you have a minute it would be great if you could pop something about your mum's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
