Two weeks ago my brother had to go into hospital because he couldn’t breath. He had covid in March and he never got over it. He went to so many different doctors and specialists and they all told him it’s covid related. Last week he had fluid from his lung drained, sent that off for testing and recently got a pet scan. Got his results today. Not only does he have lung cancer, but also abdomen and brain cancer. Don’t know how to cope. Can’t stop crying. Can help thinking he won’t be here. I don’t know how or what I’m doing.
Hi @san18 and welcome to the community though as ever we are a little bit sorry to see anyone need to join us.
The doctors will be checking if he has one form of cancer that has spread or multiple cancers - almost always it is the former and that is generally good because the cancer treatments generally target a specific type. My wife's cancer is very different, Leiomyosarcoma but she has secondaries throughout her lungs but it has responded well to the treatment and we are now living with cancer - for over 6 years!
It might help you to look at our pages Emotional support for family and friends as you will see you are far from alone - it is a shock to anyone to hear a cancer diagnosis and often we need to work though our own emotions so that we can offer the best support to those we care for. Well done for coming here as there are all sorts of people who really understand what it is like. You might also like to drop by Lung cancer forum as there will be lots of people there who can help explain what treatments are like.
If you find it helpful it might be useful to call our helpline 0808 808 0000 and talk to one of the experts there and it might also be worth talking to your GP as they will be able to provide support for you. Do post on here whenever you need as someone will always answer.
<<hugs>>

Hello @src60, thank you so much for this. Our family just found out today so this is all so very new. Still trying to process everything, and trying to get the dark thoughts out my head. But talking to people that are going through the same thing will really help. And I’m very grateful.
I’m so happy for you and your wife that the treatment is working for her.
I hope all goes well for you and your family.
And thank you for taking the time to respond. And yes I will look into the other pages.
Again, thank you
All the best
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
