Hi Everyone.
Im very new to this, on the 13th Feb this year my dad has hospitalised after having what was suspected of having a mild stroke. However this turned out to be a brain tumour and after further scans it was discovered that he had a tumours in his kidney lung and brain.
Since this time he has had 3 hospital appointments. One with a kidney specialist and 2 with oncologists.
They have tried to do a biopsy on his kidney but wasnt able to get enough at his second appointment and his third appointment they said that they needed to see him getting stronger before any treatment.
He speaks regularly to his GP and has a district nurse.
End of feb he was a relatively fit 74 year old but his health has deteriorated rapidly and now strugles to get out of bed, has lost the use of 1 arm and uses a walking frame.
At first i was very annoyed about how unproactive people where but now im wondering if they never thought there was much hope so didnt bother.....
The hospice are getting involved today to make sure he has enough equipment around the house.
Im wondering how much time i have left with him and if i should be doing more.....
Hi and a warm welcome to our online community. I noticed your post was unanswered and popped over from Carers Only. I don't think there is a 'should' with cancer. Do you live with him? If you are his next of kin you could call his specialist nurse for information, otherwise they are unlikely to talk about him because of data protection. It's good to hear that he has a district nurse and that the hospice is helping. Brain tumours can be devastating to watch as well as to have. If you'd like some advice please do call the helpline on 0808 808 0000. It's open 8am-8pm every day and is manned by understanding experts.
Love and hugs,
LoobyLou
