My lovely wife is 48 and has been in the whirlwind of tests and finally  was diagnosed with cancer or the tongue and neck last Thursday.
She already has a chronic lung condition and reduced quality of life and now this. There is only us and our 15 year old daughter locally as over the years close family have drifted away. We were told on Tuesday that due to her lung condition the chances of her surviving an operation were not good and this would have been the best way to remove all the cancer. So she is going down the route of Radiotherapy it will be an intensive course possibly up to 7 weeks. We are both so scared but I am trying to stay strong for her. This treatment is hoped to shrink the cancer and possibly remove it but they don’t think it will get it all. Sorry to ramble on but things are just going round and round in head.

  • Hi , I noticed your post was unanswered and popped over from the Carers Only group. I'm sorry to hear how awful things are. Please never feel you should apologise for rambling; it's good to get it off your chest. My husband found radiotherapy exhausting, but using pure soap or soap free facial wash at least meant his skin didn't get sore. I really hope they get it all for her and am thinking of you.

    Hugs,

    LoobyLou

Thanks LoobyLou49 I have cared for my wife since her diagnosis of her lung condition, and now she gets this as well probably due to her low immune system with all the meds she has to take for her lungs. We are lucky in some ways that we are able to talk frankly with each other as a family however upset we get. The soap advice was great as she is worried about the drying skin as she already suffers a bit with that. It’s so difficult with this virus at the moment because we wanted to take her and do something special before her treatment starts she hates being indoors too much.

I'm sorry to hear that your wife is suffering like this at such a young age, it must be really difficult for both of you to handle such news! She was already in pain and now this happened!

You're really a great supporter of her standing beside her and supporting her. I hope the treatment works well for her and make cancer to shrink so that she can be back to normal life.

Keep encouraging her with your love maybe with your love she'll be able to fight with cancer and will survive through this. Hope for the best and think positive because when you expect the least miracles l=always happens.

Btw, What's up with the lung condition? Isn't she taking any medicines or treatments to cure the lungs? I hope things get better soon for both of you.

Lots of love and good luck!

She has a rare condition called hypersensitivity pneumonitis on loads of meds for it and then meds for the side effects of those meds. It is an incurable disease she was not expected to survive that but has fought on and it is now under control albeit with the meds causing other issues and reduced lung function. This has knocked her sideways and initially was not going to have treatment but has decided to fight again.

It is good that the lung infection is reduced and she is ready to start another treatment.

Some people give up easily when they heard that there is no hope of survival & treatment, but she is really a great fighter that she did not lose her will and fought with the disease like a brave fighter and now again ready to fight again.

I wish for her healthy life ahead and hope that she'll be back to normal life again. Take care of your wife and yourself too.

    Good luck!
