I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve written on here, but we’ve had no news for so long. Sadly the Dr said to us, your circumstances are quite common.

29th August 2019 my dad was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. It was originally suggested it could be operable and curative and we hung onto those words.

Now, 18th October 2019 we had our visit to Oncology.

‘It’s stage 4’

‘Its not curative or operative’

‘We are looking at palliative care options’

I am holding onto the fact that the numbers are just statistics, he may respond well to Chemo. It was a meeting were I thought we would discuss which surgeon to use and types of procedure but it has all completely changed.

I find comfort in all the stories I read on here knowing everyone is struggling, we all go through it and for now I just want to stay strong and see hope and enjoy whatever they may give me.

I would love to hear any stories of anyone given a prognosis they were able to see past and still be here with their years later.

  • Hi , sorry to hear about your dad.

My wife's cancer is very different, Leiomyosarcoma, and was incurable at diagnosis. She never wanted a prognosis but it being a rarer cancer they are at best a guess.

She has surprised the oncolgist because she responded much better to chemotherapy than he ever expected and her cancer appears to have slowed down or even stopped - have been living with cancer now for 6 years. Took a lot of help to feel comfortable with that but she is doing so well we only have to see oncology every 9 months now and mostly they just say - you are looking well see you next time.

    Fingers crossed

    <<hugs>>
