I'm seeking some advice 're hospice admittance...
My boyfriend has stage 4 cancer renal cancer that has metasised to bone, lymph and brain and is pallative, he is currently visiting me and sadly become very unwell. I rang his local hospice who have involvement with him as he felt he needed admittance to deal with his worsening symptoms ( really low blood pressure, diahorrea, pain from odema and clot in leg, burning sensation in his head) . Now this was a big deal for his as previously he'd refused to ever attend in the 4 years his been under them, so he obviously felt he needed their help.
However because I don't live in the same area as him, they were unable to do a home visit to assess him and basically said he'd need to be seen by my GP who would then link him with a hospice in my area. Meaning he'd not have his healthcare team or anyone he's built a relationship with over the last 4 years from his hospice and god forbid he doesn't improve, it will mean being away from his children and family who live local to his home address.
I called Macmillan who advised that just because my boyfriend is visiting me, because he lives at home in the area of his hospice they should accept him but they won't.
My boyfriend is now refusing to have my GP visit / assess him as he's fearful it will jeopardise his link with his hospice. He cannot physically manage to sit in a and e for hours due to bone metasisis causing collapsed vertebrate and a blood clot in his leg.
I'm so worried and don't know where to turn...any advice will be gratefully received x
In Oxford the oncology triage system is very different to A+E, does he have contact details for his oncology team (not the hospice but the hospital) if may be worth contacting them or alternatively the PALS service at the hospital as they can often sort out red tape issues.
hope you get some support soon
<<hugs>>
