My mother has been through the mill over the last six weeks . After being rushed to hospital she had major surgery were she had a tumour removed from her bowel and stomach . They confirmed that the cancer had started in her rectum gone through bowel and stomach wall. The fantastic surgeon has managed to remove the cancer from all these areas and my mam is recovering like super woman. Unfortunately it looks like the cancer has spread to the liver . We are waiting on an oncologist appointment now but the surgeon who operated on her said they are sure there’s nothing that can be done for the Liver. I’m in such a strange place because she’s doing so well. Hoping the appointment comes through soon so we have a prognosis. Prior to the operation the Dr said if she recovered we were talking months. Looking at her now it’s so hard to take this in because she looks so well.
Thanks for listening

Hi Michelle, sorry to hear about your mum though good to hear she is doing well. I can really understand the odd feelings both when someone looks so well and also the opposite sometimes when they can look quite ill especially when going through chemotherapy.
Waiting for appointments is always a challenge; I do wonder though if what the surgeon meant was that there was nothing that could be done surgically but until she sees the oncologist the options will not be clear. On the prognosis front many people find them less than helpful - many people on here have outlived a prognosis, a few unfortunately do not make it and some seem to give up almost like they think it must be true.

Hi and welcome to the community, when you say your husband has secondary liver cancer do they know what the primary is? How old are your sons too?
It might help if you use the "start a new discussion" button (under the Family and Friends banner at the top of the thread) and give a bit more detail the community can focus its support on your issues.
Looking forward to speaking soon

I’m so sorry to hear about your husband. It’s the toughest of times isn’t it . I know how you feel it’s so new to us too and i do feel quite lost at the moment, in limbo really. She really is a fighter bless her heart , tougher than she realises , hopefully the oncologist appointment won’t be too long for us and then we know what we are fighting. How is your husband feeling in himself ? It must be awful for you and the children. If you ever need to chat please feel free to message me . I find talking to people in a similar situation really helps. We all need the support x
Hi .
Sorry to hear about your mum . My mum had a spread to her liver from a Bowel tumour . She was diagnosed back in 2009 and given a poor prognosis. However chemo did a powerful job . In a stage 4 setting it can matter more how they respond to treatment than the extent of the spread . You can click on my user name to read her full story .
I wish both your relatives every success.
take care ,
