Mum rectal cancer

Dear mikbo, I am sorry to hear of your mums upcoming surgery and the fact that she will need to adjust to having a permanent bag. It’s understandable that you are concerned about the risks involved but it’s important to remember that if the surgeon was unduly concerned it wouldn’t be going ahead, there’s quite strict protocols about theses things. The most important thing for your mum is not to see you worrying even though inside your in turmoil. The best way to cope is to get busy organising things for when she gets discharged from hospital after a successful operation, check out if she will need any special medical items or equipment to help with her recovery. I’ve been through many trials with my own cancer and the things that people do for me on a practical level are the most useful. Your mum already knows you love her so you are helping her already with emotional support.
