Fluctuating Temperature

Evening all,

My Dad had his second cycle of chemo (Carboplatin and Etoposide) and Immunotherapy (Atezolizumab) on 17th August, so he’s 10 days in. He went to A&E on Tuesday as his temperature kept spiking up and down but was sent home with antibiotics. He has been on those for 3 full days now.

His temperature was OK this morning at 37.1. At 6:20pm it was 38.0, 6:40pm it was 37.0 and 7:20pm it was 37.4 in one ear and 37.1 in the other. At 7:50pm it was 36.7. Does anybody know what causes these temperature spikes? He’s still very tired the past couple of days. When we spoke to chemo unit they said if the temperature goes down, they are happy to not go to A&E, as long as it doesn’t stay above 37.5 twice in a row.

If anyone can give any insight, that would be great.

Thanks

  •  Hi Lucie. I just dropped in from my group and noticed you'd not had a reply to this post for which I'm sorry no members responded.

I think in future if you have a question like this it'd be best if you call the Macmillan Support helpline, freephone number shown below, and speak to a nurse as they'd probably be more knowledgeable and be able to offer better advice. Or even 111 if it's out of hours.

I do know you get support from the lung group so hope you posted a similar question there.

I hope your Dad's doing ok with his chemo treatments, he will get through this.

    Hugs, B x
