COVID19 letters

Hi, I have not received a letter or text yet either, although I have just had my 3rd cycle of chemo. My surgery was planned for the end of April but this has now been cancelled due to Covid-19, but at the moment it looks as though the chemo will continue with surgery at the end instead.

I have registered myself as extremely vulnerable on the gov.uk website but still nothing. My concern is that I need to be able to access online delivery slots for groceries and it seems that this will not happen until I am on the government database. My husband is trying not to go out at all in order to shield me and nearby family are struggling to buy the food they need for themselves without supplying us as well!

I haven't been contacted either, but I only started chemo a couple of weeks ago so wondered if I hadn't got into the system in time, even though I had surgery in January. IMy second will be the first week in April, so I somehow have to find somewhere safe to get a blood test done!

Anyway, like you I have registered on the gov.uk website but not heard anything yet. Food-wise I will have enough to get by on for a week or so, but it's impossible to get any online slots at present and the friends who have been helping me til now have to shop for their own families as well. I have no idea how the site works, they have my NHS number so they should be able to cross check easily enough. Going through this alone is stressful enough without having to worry about basic necessities as well.

Hi Bluebell, exactly so! I don’t need government foods parcels but I do need to be able to book an online delivery slot. We have food for another week. 

Heh, yes! For starters, I very much doubt that the official food parcels will have any flexibility - I pretty much lived on ginger biscuits and fruit pastilles for a week due to nausea, along with rice with boiled egg! - and I will need more than food at some point too. More wipes or bleach, gloves...

Hi, yes I got one, a total surprise as I've stopped chemo! As far as I can tell the main difference is that you are to 'avoid all face to face contact for at least 12 weeks, except for carers and health care workers who you must see as part of your medical care.' All the rest, 2m etc, is as normal. Don't share/minimize use of kitchens bathrooms beds if possible.

Somewhat easier said than done if you are in a small family house!

Does make me wonder if there's anything they are not letting on, as I thought I was clear....

Hi everyone

Yes like Gemmary I have received a letter informing me to shield for at least 12 weeks also I live in a house with 3 others and my wife is a support worker at a rehabilitation center from the local hospital so will be more at risk. My chemotherapy was stopped last week with 10 of 30 sessions remaining just gotta wait for a CT scan to see if all clear.

So I haven't had a letter, but I have today had a text from the gov.uk site that I registered with, saying my details would go to the NHS - I presume that what happens next depends on whether the NHS then class me as critically vulnerable or not. In all honesty, as I am fortunate enough to still be getting a salary, I would rather be one of those given priority for online supermarket slots than be passed to the local authorities.

At the moment, they are still planning to continue my treatment, with my next session on Tuesday.

i received an email from Gov.uk this morning saying the same thing. Like you I don’t need food aid as on full sick pay at the moment - just need supermarket home delivery slot! I guess we wait to see what happens next?

My surgery has been cancelled for now but chemo continues thank goodness.

Hello everyone sorry to jump on here.  I just wanted to say about shopping for essentials; I have found that local independent stores are delivering much quicker.  If you find the thread Selfish people from earlier today where a lady is also finding it difficult to get a supermarket slot, the highlander has also uncluded information on help with shopping for supplies.

Just a reminder that most areas have a facebook group or similar, where people will volunteer to shop for you if you dont have anyone who can do it for you. Local radio often have links to community action groups too.
