I everyone, I'm hopping over from another group as I start my first cycle of Chemo on Wednesday morning at 11.00am. As many who have gone before I am starting to get very worried. I have been looking at all the sites with side effects and do understand that different people are affected in different ways. Mine is for Palliative care so it is to make my life a little easier. Oooo how I could do with some virtual hugs xx

  • Sending so much love your way!

  • Hi Lesley, I’m a bit late replying to your post as you’ve obviously already begun your chemotherapy.

We were scared when they told us my hubby had to start it last year but he had relatively few side effects and I hope you’ve been equally fortunate.  It’s obviously not the same chemo as he had but he found the problem that seems to affect most people, whatever they’re on, is fatigue and loss of taste or food tasting weird.

We found his chemo team very supportive if he was worried about anything.  He didn’t like to bother them but they said they preferred him to, just to be on the safe side, and always came up with medication to help with side effects.  I hope yours are equally caring.

I wish you all the best on this awful journey and belatedly send you lots of hugs.

    Hazel x

  • Thank you Hazel, yes I have done my first round and start my second on New year's Eve. I think I have been very fortunate. I have contacted the team on a couple of occasions but have been reassured that all is going okay. Yes the taste and sore mouth have been problems, and the fatigue. I am lucky I have retired and my family is grown up so I can concentrate on myself with my devoted husband looking after me xxx

  • Hi Lesley, hope you managed to have a reasonable Christmas and that the taste problem didn’t spoil your dinner.  My hubby found that it started a few days after the infusion and lasted for about 5 days before going more or less back to normal.  I just stuck to rather bland food around that time. I hope your team came up with some mouthwashes for you.

We’re also retired which means that he can take it easy during  the worst time of the cycle.  I’m glad you have your husband to look after you.  Our roles are often reversed now, with me looking after him whenever necessary! xx
