Hi my name is Vin. My wife Linda(69) was diagnosed with Stage 4B Ovarian Cancer mid July  last year after receiving the all clear at the end of April. Her first round of chemo got her back on her feet and she was prescribed Niraparib. A month later she is back in bed after having ascites drained. She is not eating and is in pain and spends her time sleeping. She only drinks whole milk and only gets out of bed to go to the toilet

I think she is dying but the specialist phoned and wants to see her on Thursday for a 'New Plan" I'm not sure we will make it that far. How long can you live without eating? I feel alone and powerless as she sleeps almost 24/7 apart from admin of painkillers.

Is this all 'Normal' ?

NB She decided against debulking operation because it was high risk

  • Hi

So sorry to read about your wife, being in pain can be very challenging and not eating is something many carers find very difficult.

Hope you both manage to make the meeting on Thursday and that you both talk about what you have mentioned above.

That feeling of powerlessness is very common in carers, indeed if we look at Your feelings when someone has cancer we see a whole range of emotions and I know I went through quite a few of those.

    <<hugs>>

  • Hi Steve

Thanks for your concern and the link was very helpful. I am not alone but it feels that way. She is strong and the family needs her. I would swap places.

  • Linda has ascites and the specialist said she is too rundown for chemo at the moment. She has been prescribed Levomepromazine.

Are they keeping something from us, I wonder?
