Hi. My husband was diagnosed with malignant anorectal cancer caused by, of all things, malignant melanoma! His bowel cancer team said they can't do anything for him but keep him comfortable as it's already showing shadows in his abdomen and lungs... He's been referred to skin cancer specialists who should have discussed his case but I'm confused about his 'key nurse';  will she stay with us as we transfer to melanoma team, or do we get a new key nurse? Thanks for any info.

  • Hello

My name is Steph and I’m part of the Online Community Team here at Macmillan. May I wish you another warm welcome to the Community although I am sorry that circumstances have brought you here. I hope you don’t mind me responding to your post here today.

In addition to offering you some support, my reply will also bump your post so that more members will see it.

I am sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis and it is natural to worry about what will happen next. Each hospital trust and department may have different ways of allocating 'key nurses' so your question is difficult to answer here. The best people to ask would be your team at the hospital. You could contact your husband's key nurse directly and ask if they will continue to be your contact.

If you'd like to talk anything through with a professional at Macmillan, our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00email or live webchat. They don't have access to medical records or your assigned contacts at hospital, but they can discuss any concerns with you.

Please do let us know if you have any questions or need further support with anything at all. I hope the Community helps to show you that you don’t have to go through anything alone.
