I have just discovered that my husband is probably suffering this as a side effect to chemo. How can I confirm this and what plans need I put in place to cope with this
Hi Sarnadela - do you have an allocated nurse and have you talked with them? We have a 'Clinical Nurse Specialist' who's always my go-to for questions like this.
He doesnt seem to have any contacts. Im wondering if anyone out there has suffered or suffering from "chemo brain" or whether this is something else and how do I find out.
Hey Sarnadela...
Sorry for the slow response. I think "chemo brain" isn't any one thing - it's a description of a whole bunch of symptoms that result from the brain being affected by chemo which can include from confusion, forgetfulness, depression, etc., depending which part of the brain is affected. So I guess what you need to put in place will strongly depend on what exactly is going on with your husband.
Are you able to be more specific? If you have no other contacts then you should go through your GP and explain the situation and exactly what are the symptoms that are creating problems. Also ask for them to put you in contact with a Cancer Nurse Specialist who can provide you with the support when you need it.
Or use the Macmillan helpline or the "ask a specialist" link at the top of the page.
Sorry I can't be more helpful. I hope you are doing OK.
Pete
