Hello,

My husband has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and we were told only yesterday. He's a very stoic man and I'm always considered to be a strong woman. However, I cannot begin to describe the feelings I'm going through since yesterday. Every time I look at him I well up and I spent last night with massive anxiety listening to him having to get up every hour or so to go to the loo. I need to be strong for him. He more or less took the news in his stride but I think he's devastated deep down. He's always been great in crisis situations but I see the sadness and I'm annoyed with myself for feeling weak. It's about me helping him not the other way around.

  •  It's totally normal to be upset, anxious & have an array of emotions.  Talking really does help have you tried talking to the MacMillan nurses.  Also the hospital you are under should be able to advise on support groups & therapy.  The forum is great & lots of support on here.  You are not alone, there is a whole community on here who understand what you & your husband are going through.   I totally get how hard it can be to talk openly about concerns, fears etc.  My partner has been a rock but I could see he was struggling & trying to be brave for me.  I thinks its just as hard for our loved ones.  Please don't feel you are alone in this, reach out tallk to others.
