Been living in limbo for the last week, feeling numb, after they found a 5cm lesion in my Husbands osephegeous when doing an endoscopy. Today we found out it is cancer and luckily it looks like it hasn't spread and they can operate. Although this looks like a long and terrifying road to go down.

We don't have a treatment plan confirmed, they said chemo then op. But first they want to do MRI, Pet CT and ultra sound camera, but fingers crossed they won't find anything else. Fingers crossed

  • Hi

That first time we hear the word cancer if often feels like our world stopped. It has been six years for us and still going strong.

Chemo, scans and other forms of treatment are all challenges and as carers we often end up sitting there feeling helpless - but together somehow our new special family on here helps.

  • Hi there

We’re in the same position with my husband getting a diagnosis via endoscopy on 1st September. CT scan showed a couple of marks on his liver that they couldn’t say what they were so he’s had a PET scan which for some reason the radiation didn’t light up the tumour in his oesophagus that much and didn’t light up anything else. The specialist nurse described this as sort of good news! Anyway we’re now waiting for an MRI, endoscopic ultrasound and Laparoscopy in the next couple of weeks.

We’re trying not to look ahead and I’ve only done some reading on this website and joined this and the oesophagus group. I’ve had a couple of days of feeling really upset when I made myself get out Fingers crossedto the garden and I can identify with the numbness as well. As my husband is Fingers crossed still eating reasonably well and apart from tiredness is ok, it also at times feels a bit surreal.
    Sending best wishes

  • Yeah, its so scary! We haven't told family yet, just our kids, so it doesn't seem real, think we need to get our heads round it, plus it's a big birthday for a family member this week, so we don't want to overshadow that. I think now we know he has it, we just want to get on and fight it, but reading the book they gave us, it seems it may take a lot longer than either of us anticipated, but we're ready for the fight. Good luck with all his test test the op, hope it all goes well for you both xx

  • Lots of luck to you too. We’ve got the MRI booked for this Thursday so Fingers crossed we’ve only told close family as well and are putting off telling anyone else until we know a bit more. It’s definitely helpful knowing we’re not the only ones dealing with all this! Xx
