Hi everyone I know its a difficult time with COVID etc but sometimes I'm not allowed in appointments with my husband. He's got osephagus cancer that has spread to his bones. He needs a pin in his leg as it's at risk of fracture and his clavical has already been fractured so he is a bit unsteady. Now he has double vision in one eye so the last appointment in hospital he hurt himself walking in to a door. Is there anything anyone knows about that could let me assist him more? thank you and much love to everyone out there
You should speak to the hospital again. If he needs assistance you should be allowed in with him as long as you do a lateral flow test first. The last thing he needs is more injuries
thank you very much @jillybean74 I will speak to them
Hi Charlotte101
Sorry to hear about all you've been through. I agree with Jillbean74 - speak to the team and hopefully they'll arrange for you to be able to accompany your husband to the appointments. I had to get similar permission to attend my husband's appointments and the hospital were very understanding.
Sending you a huge virtual hug. Stay strong
Wee me xx

Oh it’s so hard. I definitely understand the restrictions- with we carers attending appointments it essentially doubles the risk of Covid being introduced onto the ward or to the doctors. And given the shutdowns and delays in treatment we’re already hitting, I do want to do my part to keep the health system safe, and cancer patients (who are particularly vulnerable) from being exposed to any more risk. However, I know my husband really does need me there, so when he’s consulting with his doctors I insist I’m at least on the phone. He has missed critical information for his health that I hear and remember. When I am allowed to accompany him, I’ve been extra careful- getting my vaccines and flu shot, wearing a mask carefully, and sanitising my hands all the time. It’s heartbreaking because I know he needs me there emotionally, too, but mostly he has to do his appointments, scans, and procedures on his own with me in the car park.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
