Hello. My husband has come home from his 3rd chemo session to say they need to do a PICC line for him as his veins are struggling? Can anyone give me some assurance this is good? It feels like a step in the wrong direction? Thank you
HI JoeyB
I've limited knowledge of PICC lines I'm afraid but I hope by replying here it will boost your post and encourage others in the group with more experience to comment.
From what I know I wouldn't say its a step in wrong direction. People's veins fail/struggle for various reasons. The PICC line should make it easier for your husband's team to administer the chemo and maybe make it more comfortable for him.

Hi Joey. My husband had one for a while, he got his before his first chemo. They are ok as it cuts down on the amount of times they get stabbed by needles. Between chemo and frequent blood tests thats a lot! There are 2 lines attached to it, one for giving the chemo and one for blood tests. You get used to it after a while.
Hi JoeyB. My husband had a PICC line inserted on his first day of chemo. It’s perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. It doesn’t bother my husband in the slightest. He wears a bandage around it and just uses a watertight sleeve when taking a shower to keep it dry. It sounds worse than it is. I wouldn’t see it as a step in the wrong direction at all. So much easier than nurses trying to find veins all the time
You are more than welcome. The hospital gave my husband everything he needs. He came home with the sleeve along with a selection of bandages to wear around it for comfort. They should take care of everything for him I’m sure, so hopefully no need for you to worry about anything.
