My Mum has adeno carcinoma of the lung with brain metastases. She's had a 5day course of Radiotherapy, which finished 2weeks ago. Her hair started falling out last week, & she's due to see "the Wig lady" (as she insists on calling the hair & beauty lady!) on Thursday. I am trying so hard to brush her hair gently, but yesterday & today she says her scalp feels sore,& like "pins & needles". But she wants me to wash her hair tomorrow before her appointment on Thursday. Please does Anyone have any advice on a)if this is a good idea, & b) any products that would be gentle enough to wash her hair, or help with her sore scalp? Thankyou xx
Hi ,
My wife has not had the pleasure of radio therapy but I noted on the cancer research uk website:-
Hair washing tips
During your treatment, you need to wash your hair carefully so that you don't make the area sore. Use only warm or cool water.
Be gentle with your hair and use a non perfumed shampoo or baby shampoo.
It is best not to use a hair dryer but to gently dry your hair with a soft towel. Or you can let your hair dry naturally.
Let your radiographer know if your skin gets sore and they can advise you on how to care for it.
I have seen some people on here have different wigs and they give them all names to make a bit of fun over it. When Janice lost her hair due to chemotherapy she went to a session with some friends in a metallic purple wig - sure one way of standing out from the crowd.
<<hugs>>
Steve
