Hello my husband is half way through radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment and is experiencing constant nausea. I’d be grateful for any tips from anyone who has found something that works.
thank you!

  • Hi

I am sure you are on this already but do talk to the oncology team about this, they may be able to change his anti-sickness medication or refer to a dietician who will help find what works for him because as a carer it can feel extra hard on us to watch out loved one goes through this.

The good news is usually these symptoms go away very quickly when the treatment comes to an end - though then of course there are all sorts of other worries around has it worked, what comes next etc etc.

A massive trigger for Janice is being given oramorph - getting the latest doctor to understand that when they just say "it will be fine" - well perhaps if there is a sick bowl to hand it will.

There is a lot of detail on our page about nausea and vomiting and there are a range of tips at the bottom of that page that many people find helpful.

Thank you. That’s so helpful and especially to be warned about the Oramorph. x

  • Janice just likes to give the medics a challenge; when they ask about allergies - penicillin, ferrous sulphate, guaifenesin and then of course the drugs she takes to deal with the slightly high blood pressure and the diabetes  - she sometimes seems a bit like a drug cocktall shaker.

My dad was quite similar one particular sleeping tablet had what they refer to as a paradoxical reaction - sometimes the only person who could calm him down was my sister.

For my arthritis the doctor has prescribed a naproxen but because I also take a daily low dose aspirin that then increases my risk of stomach ulcers, so I then need to take something called a proton pump inhibiter. Our local pharmacy does quite well out of the two of us.

    keep safe
