Hi is is possible to visit my mum at home (once lockdown is lifted) while she is undergoing chemo?  i am working from home at the moment  so don't mix with anyone but due to return to the office at the end of this month. I really don't want to have to mix with people if it means i can't do mums shopping etc, i was planning to ask if i can carry on working from home but not sure if i am being over cautious? any advise would be appreciated, thanks

  • Hi

Sorry to hear you have this worry, I know around here my workplace is actually far safer than most supermarkets but I can appreciate that may well not be the same for many.

Perhaps the first approach might be to discuss your concerns with your manager and possibly HR too. If it is possible for you to work from home that might be agreed, possibly though some contact in a more normal way might be good for you too. I know there are people I work with who are really desperate to get back in to the office even though they have been working from home.

While a lot of chemo therapy does hit the immune system one of the plus points of covid is that it has reinforced the idea of basic hygiene - cleaning hands, keeping hands away from face and checking temperature. My wife has 3 or 4 temperature spikes while she was on chemotherapy and it was a case of in hospital for IV antibiotics and that was fixed too.

Hope those thoughts help - if you want to talk this through with someone here though do ring the helpline and they will I am sure be able to help more.

    <<hugs>>
