Hi I am currently caring for mum who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, I was lucky in someways as I been able to spend most of my time with mum and making memories. I just worried about my furlough as it will be coming upto 9 weeks as she is high risk. Just wondering what the government statement is on it after 12 weeks. As hope to spend as much as possible with my mum
cheers
Hi ,
Sorry to hear about your mum and I can see in some ways being able to be with her through the furlough period may have felt supportive to you both. We do have some pages on coronvavirus here that include specific advice around work and coronavirus.
Many people have questions in your position around to stay in work or not, there are so many questions and it might help to look in to what your rights are and of course it depends on the needs of your mum too. In normal times your local council would do a needs assessment for your mum and a carers assessment for whoever looks after them. Partially to it depends on the needs of your employer to.
One think that might help you is to look at our pages on Looking after someone with cancer and remember that perhaps the most important thing of all is to be kind to yourself.
<<hugs>>
Steve
