Hi All,

With so many new members it's time to post a few tips on support that's available. First off a very warm welcome to all; while it's sad that you had to find yourself here, this is a space where you can ask other carers about their experiences, support others at the same time or simply read and take comfort from posts.

Maggie's Centres run courses to help with the stress of cancer for sufferers and carers.

Pop your post code in here to find local cancer support groups.

Call 0808 808 0000 if you need to chat to an expert. The line is open every day 8am to 8pm.

Looking After Someone with Cancer is a guide with lots of information and tips on how to care for yourself while caring for someone else.

Your loved one's specialist nurse can provide information and support and if s/he is in the later stages of cancer, ask the GP for a referral to the local hospice where they can provide support in the home.

Thinking of you all,

    Morning,

A warm welcome to all new members, sorry you have found yourself in this position, but hope you can find the comfort and advice you are looking for.
Here are some helpful tips which have helped me in caring for my dad (my hero) over the past three years, he is nearing the end of his life 82 amazing years, but we have had the best time.  We have lived life to the full and managed to fit so much in.  Family are now caring for him at home as we say a sad farewell to this legend of a man who has not complained  once through everything that has been thrown at him.

    So here goes...

Take care of yourself,  walk in the fresh air, meet up with friends, spend as much time with family as possible, none of us know how long we have, take as many photographs as people will let you!! Eat well,  all your favourite things. If people offer help, don’t be too proud, accept it.  They would not offer if they did not mean it.  Laugh, it’s ok to laugh, it can be really tough some days. Do things that you enjoy, swim, read, meditate, walk, run, sit outside in the sunshine, visit friends, play cards, visit the theatre, watch all your favourite movies.  Take time to look at the sky and smell the roses.  Lastly take as many holidays as you can fit in.

Remember there is always hope, and someone who can help you, just keep asking and it will find you.
Thinking of you all and sending positive thoughts your way.
