Hello everyone,

the title says it all, this is a thread for everyone at any and all hours of day and night, to post, help, laugh, cry and anything in between. There will be no nasty posts, everyone who joins in will be gentle, considerate and kind to everyone else. Hugs to all......xxx

  • Hi Rose,

So very sorry that your results arent better than this, fingers, toes and everything crossed for the trial to help you. In the meantime, this is a good place to relax, and hopefully the faeries keep you supplied with all you would wish for in warmth, foods and drinks.

Sending you and all others, my love and hugs xxx

  • Hi Mark,

Hubs has a similar problem keeping his insulin pens cool on a trip out, or even for longer periods, you can get a cool bag specially for this, which you soak in cold water, and then pop into an outer case that keeps everything dry. I suggest you google (or get William to do so for you) it shouldn't be hard to find. Hubs has two bags, one for a day trip, a bigger one for a few days' supply, finds it keeps it all cool for a day or more! Just checked, his system is called 'FRIO'

    Hope that helps?

    Hugs xxx

One thing occurs to me, can you ask the airline to put it in a fridge on the plane? I think they  must have some kind of fridge on board because they serve cold drinks/ice?

Wow Mark that sounds like a lot of juggling and thinking on your feet, hope the trip goes really well and you sort the cold storage out.

  • Hi all,

A jug of Pimms is ready for anyone (else!) who would like to join me? I'm in the hot tub.......

One exhausting but successful and fascinating day, with the Bombe team at Bletchley Park, message encrypted on Enigma in Germany, received in Bletchley, settings found, decrypted and replied to! Number of possible Settings (for a typical 3 wheel Enigma) are just under 159 million, million, million. That's 159 followed by 18 noughts! And we got those settings in one hour, 40 minutes today!

Tomorrow we hope that the Enigma message can be sent in Morse code too, from Germany, the settings of tomorrow's Enigma found and message decoded, which will be the first time since 1945 that it's happened. We have good friends at the Heinz-Nixdorf Computer Museum who are going to encode and send those messages.

    Phew!

    Hugs xxx

    Hi All,

    Moomy,

Hope all goes well today, and you have success in putting the Enigma machine to work again, very exciting.

Hope everyone is as well as they can be and looking forward to a nice weekend, the warmth of the sun is making me come out of hibernation, but might only be for a few days as Monday looks like normal temperatures again and the airing cupboard is so nice and warm and cosy.

The cogs are working slowly and what we thought would be 1st session of chemo this week hasn't happened and looks like it may be after Easter, so will have some quality time with youngest son who's coming home from Uni for a few days, and then family gathering over Easter, more kayaking hopefully while the weather is good and a bit of gardening in between, home seems the safe haven  not wanting to venture far.

Had a beautiful rose plant brought for me from a friend today really cheered me up.

So sending you all a Polar Bear hug and hoping for a good weekend for all

    Angela xx

  • Hi everyone,

Polarbear, hope you get some time to enjoy what sounds as if it will be a beautiful warm weekend, especially Sunday. How lovely to get a rose plant to cheer you!

I'm in the hot tub again, with a lovely long Pimms, frozen tayberries from last year's crop to replace the 'proper' strawberries, but it's yummy all the same.

So, Enigma battle scores? England:2 Germany :0.......we did it again!

    Enjoy the sun, all

    Hi,

How are you all? it seems very quiet lately in here, hoping that's a good sign, everyone is ok and just getting on with life.

    Rose,

How are you? Hope you are feeling a bit better and you have some good news soon.

    Mark,

How was the trip? Hope you had a fab time and are not too tired on your return

    Moomy,

Hope you feel a bit rested after your busy but successful time at Bletchley, and all ok at home

Hope everyone else will have a good Easter, Hubby is starting his chemo tomorrow, so hoping we can still meet up with his family on Sunday, but will see on the day how he is feeling. We had a lovely weekend with the youngest son lots of talking and making memories and enjoying each others company. So onwards and upwards and see what happens in the next few weeks.

Hugs to everyone and a Happy Easter

    Angela xx

  • Hi Polarbear,

Hope chemo goes well for you both and doesn't ruin Easter for you and the family.

We were just saying that Easter is getting as big a festival as Christmas these days, it certainly is longer, with two guaranteed bank holidays usually either side of the weekend, Christmas isn't always as long officially, though many companies now keep the whole week between Christmas Eve and New Year as holiday.

We are rested, but having our fence blown down a while back means we've had to find someone to put up a new one for us as we are both too ancient and hubs too decrepit to do it ourselves, panels and posts were delivered today, we have a chap coming early Saturday to do the work, I will no doubt be wielding a large brush with a big pot of fence paint all day Sunday - what a way to spend Easter!!!

Daughter has been busy recording Christmas music - yes! -with the Hallė orchestra. She is still getting from one end of the country to the other, hopefully enough work to pay the bills, and has also enlisted quite a number of famous names to help (by performing The Acrobat) a fellow cancer patient with a bid to get funds for a drug that the NHS cannot provide. I hope he does as well as she eventually did, even though it left her with problems.

I suspect hubs and I are a touch too tired to think of leaping into the hot tub tonight....have left hot cross buns ready for tomorrow, they are great toasted!

    Hugs to all xxx

    Hi, everyone, Angela,

The trip away to Berlin was great; only the second country other than UK and Sweden I've travelled too. But now William and I are planning more trips in the future (problem being I can't tollerate heat which rules out a lot of places!).

Berlin I really liked, - decent coffee in a cafe, only 1 Euro; 80 pence!- Round here, all the cafes charge at least £2.50 now for a coffee! Oh, and I got to have the curried sausage, in a bar we found.... and quite  a bit of pilsner too, which I really rather enjoyed... - I did gain 1 Lb; but the food at the hotel during the conference was so good, and perhaps the amount of pilsner I drank added to the weight gain to I think.

Utterly exausted now though!; Monday was just hours of travel, to get into London, then from Kings Cross to Heathrow, and of course hours walking through Heathrow and then the flight, which was the quickest bit of the journey! Tuesday was the all day conference/symposium from 8.30 until 5.30. After which the organisers from the pharmacutical firm, decided as we were all staying that night, they'd take us out for dinner.... hence I got to try the Berlin curried sausage, plus more pilsner, which they all paid for. - All our travel and other expenses are being refunded, plus we both get 150 Euros for having attended..

Was very interesting,  meeting other patients with adult growth hormone defeciency, most of whom lack many of the same other hormoens I lack too, including the cortisol, and testosterone, thyroid hormone, Etc. - Wwe were there to help them finalise a phase three trial of a new version of the growth hormone; to get the patient's perspective on what is important to look at, and between the patients there, we've slightly altered some of the things they'll examine in the study they'll soon be conducting; quite exciting (but I don't think I'm allowed to mention much more about the trial).

The food was so gorgeous.... Swiss cheese and sausage salad, teriaki prawns, - and food at every break, lunch, and of course breakfast in the hotel, and pilsner in the bar at night!- actually its a wonder I only gained 1 Lb!

Wednesday was travelling back, again they'd laid on a driver for us, to get from the hotel to the airport in Berlin, and the trip back went smoothly enough, even if it starts to drag a little after an hour on the underground in London, just to get to Kings Cross....

So exausted now, not sure if its just the trip, or perhaps my hypothyroidism (which isn't being treated at the moment)   is starting to give me symptoms of the hormone defeciency at last...

Got back to discover the building completely encased in scaffolding!; the council is finally painting the outside of the building; so now we've a loverly clean, freshly painted dark blue front door.... - only they've painted over the door numbers, yet again, so today we went out to the DIY store and bought some new large door numbers, but we don't dare put them up yet, just in case the council will return after the long weekend, and do a second coat of paint on the door; but wow, the dark dingy corner outside the front door, is suddenly looking cared for and like it isn't just a hang-out for druggies and alcoholic homeless people.. - This is the first time they've painted it all the time (20 years). I've lived here, so at least they're finally doing something for all the money I pay each year in ground rent and for maintaince of the outside....

I do seem to suddenly be sleeping an aweful lot... an afternoon nap will be needed very soon I think, and we're having a quiet weekend, with the next things happening a trip to the pub Saturday night with the local LGBT group, then I've got the gym on Tuesday for weights, and then circuit training again on Wednesday, so I best lose the weight I've gained before wednesday!

Hope everyone is OK, or as well as can be expected, Hugs and cuddles to anyone who needs them

    Mark
