Members of the Online Community have shared how helpful getting outside and walking has been for their mental health and wellbeing, even if it’s only a few steps around the garden or a few quiet moments in nature.

This thread is a space for anyone in the Online Community to share those moments. You’re welcome to:

  • Share when you’ve been for a walk or spent some time outside
  • Talk about how you were feeling before or after
  • Share encouraging thoughts or quotes
  • Post photos from your walk (while staying safe and not sharing identifying details)

There’s no pressure, targets, or competition. The idea is simply to encourage one another, share the small moments that help, and enjoy some of the wellbeing benefits that can come from fresh air, movement, and time spent outdoors.

  • Hi

I also wanted to give you a warm welcome to the Online Community and share some other links you might find helpful.

I'm sorry to hear about your bladder cancer diagnosis and that your heart condition makes it difficult for you to get out much.

I'm glad you've found the Online Community, and I hope you'll find it to be a welcoming and supportive place. I can see that  has already shared some really helpful links, including our Bladder cancer forum.

While Macmillan doesn't currently run weekly online support groups, Action Bladder Cancer UK does run online support meetings, with the next one taking place in September. Hopefully that might be something you'd find helpful. I'll include the link below:

If you'd like to explore what other support may be available, I'd also encourage you to give our Support Line a call on 0808 808 00 00. The Support team can talk through your current situation and help you find any local or national support that may be suitable for you.

I hope you continue to find support here in the Online Community, and please do keep posting whenever you feel like chatting or asking questions.

    Best wishes,
    Dylan

  • Just saying Hello to anyone who can't do as much of anything as they'd like to due to the heat. I'm looking forward to being able to get out and about more when the temperatures drop!

  • Oh hi yes definately i like to try and have a little walk but its been too hot for me. Normally my husband is complaining about rainy summers but this year i think he would be grateful for it lol.

I think uk just isnt fit for purpose. Weve been to egypt spain greece tunisia etc over the years but it didnt ever feel like this. We need air con without a doubt.

Hope you are coping and trying to manage to stay cool of sorts

  • I think my ice cream consumption might have added some weight!

  •  Been buying some boxes too. Only £2 in a certain frozen store.

  • I haven’t been out and about for a week or so, because the temperature has been in the 30’s. I have spent a week sat on this sofa, in front of a fan that is only blowing warm air at me! I’m sick of these 4 walls. So this morning I got up early, grabbed a bottle of water and headed out the door. We are lucky to have some woods very close to our house so I headed there. Although already 20 degrees there was a breeze today, which was a lovely surprise after a week of hot, humid, still air. There was a lot of families all rushing the children to school, and it felt like a buzz in the air, dogs barking, children screeching in the excitement of a new school day. But as soon as I crossed the road and into the woods, it was like the sound was switched off, replaced by the trees rustling in the breeze, birds chirping and just the sound of the gravel path under my feet as I walked. This was bliss! It has only been a week, but felt like a lifetime stuck indoors.

  • Hi Chellismo. Good that you managed to get out eventually despite heat. Had a lens replaced in left eye, but hoping to be able to carry a rucksack in a day or so. Lens replaced on 3rd July.

  • Hi Chelle

Well done you for getting out, you must feel so much better for that!

I had a short meditation this morning sat outside at the holiday rental I am staying at with friends - quite a cooling breeze this morning ( down on south coast near Lymington). It was nice to sit outside and hear the birds, watch the dragonflies around the pond…

    All the best

  • Hi

you are in my neck of the woods. My daughter lives near Lymington so I know it well. I am across the other side of the Solent. I hope you are having a nice stay with friends. The breeze has stayed so far, it does feel cooler than it has thank goodness.
