Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • I've become aware that I sometimes mumble to myself when out and about, Ray, but if a stranger should notice I'll go for the mental old bat thing. At my age I've become invisible anyway, so yehaaaa! xxx

  • Yes, they are rather predictable but I do like that. Always someone getting poisoned!! If I lived then, I'd be avoiding all food, drink and cosmetics! Joy

  • Aw thanks Ray. I purposely didn't cry with him, so as not to give my poor lad any further grief. I did hold his hand all the way home in the taxi, though. Sob xxx

  • Still no Garibaldi Ray? That's not good!

I talk to myself too. Sometimes I'm the only person who can sort stuff out! Joy

  • Seems like I'm not the only one who talks to themselves Julie. Thank god for that! xxx

  • Not too bad thanks Rose. Just done 4 weeks of chemo. That's cycle one done.  Got consultant appt Monday so will be overthinking the time away till then!

Chemo has been tiring and I seem to gain a pound every week. I'm eating more healthily that 4 weeks ago but not moving as much as usual so that's probably the issue.

    Hope you're ok too Rose.

    Julie xx

  • Speaking of medical matters, has anyone else noticed their hay fever kicking off in the last few days? I have only suffered from hay fever since my early 60s (now 76). The night before last I was about to crawl out of my armchair to head for bed at a silly am hour. As I sat up to gather my walking sticks I sneezed quite violently, then again, and repeated this for 4 in quick succession. I cursed a bit then went upstairs. When I looked at my catheter pipe a minute later, it had turned a mild rosé colour. I am quite susceptible to such occurrences but at least this time I could blame the sneezing. Before I joined this forum (bladder cancer section) over two years ago, traces of blood used to immediately throw me in to a fit of gloom and despondency. In fact I joined after a similar but more severe colourful display back then. This forum helped me immensely to keep my mental balance, so thank you to members new and old. Yes, I realise my mental balance may seem questionable at times. Garibaldi.  Ray x

  • We should start calling you Garibaldi, Ray Joy Anyway yes to the hayfever, but mine started very early in the year. Oddly enough, none for OH this time round but he no longer has any use for his nose, apart from aesthetics, so maybe that explains his lack of it. Dunno really xxx

  • Ray Garibaldi sounds quite dashing actually Ray!
