Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Hi Gill, Yes I am doing my jigsaws but actually never stopped doing them while on holiday. The beauty of that App is you don't need to be on WiFi or the Internet as you can access the ones you have saved offline. It was a Godsend. Well my friend loves Edinburgh Rock but when I asked what to bring her back (this is limited because she is in a Care Home) she said Tablet! Well we couldn't find it anywhere, lots of different kinds and flavours of fudge but no tablet in sight. The woman in the John Yule factory told us 'Crumbly Fudge was just the same. I bought two boxes, so we could try it. No, it is nothing like it. I see her today so yesterday I went to the local shops and bought Scottish Tablet. Of course my husband didn't complain about going into every sweet shop in Scarborough, Fileya and Bridlington because he bought something in every shop!! I love Ginger. You should try Scottish Ginger Tablet YUM!!

  • Hi Chloe, Well you may not believe this but just yesterday I met that neighbour in M&S and she came over to me! She asked how my husband was as she saw him coming out of our car the other day, stopping sitting on the open hatchback to catch his breath. It turned out her husband had been diagnosed with cancer last year but as she hasn't spoken to me in ten years, she thought I didn't know. Her husband and I were in the same tennis club, so he always spoke to me if she wasn't around.

She told me yesterday, you could tell my husband had cancer but I never really looked ill once I was out and about, so she thought I was faking it! Now I ask you, who would do that? Tempting fate I would say. Then she said her husband told her he saw me at the Beatson, (West of Scotland Cancer hospital) while she was parking the car. She said she dealt bad but didn't know how to approach me after so long! I told her just saying hello would have done it. She told me what's been happening with her husband and I dealt very sorry for her!

I couldn't believe I only mentioned her the other night! I'm so pleased you got a positive reaction. Good luck with your appointments!

  • Hi Big Steve, Maggie is beautiful and obviously well looked after!

My husband lost his hair early in his 40's and did the 'Hamlet comb over' until i persuaded him to get it cut. Now just because of that, the first sign of his hair even thinning our 33 year old son shaved his head. What a shock we got but he said he wasn't waiting for it to fall out! I'm sure you will be fine whether you choose to shave it or leave it as it is the personality that shines out!

  • Hi Annette.  I've never tried tablet although my mate at work told me about it.  That was several years ago before I retired, but she hailed from Glasgow originally, and although she moved down here aged four, her passion for Scotland was off the scale!  I once bought her a teddy, draped in the Saltire, for Christmas and she loved it.  We were also both mad for all things ginger, the stronger the better, and were always on the hunt for powerful ginger ale.  I still crave it now.  So yes, after all that blathering, I'd devour Scottish Ginger Tablet in a heartbeat.  Wonder if you can buy it online?  Oh, and every time we headed off to the east coast, we'd be just like your hubby and go in all the rock shops.  Fantastic!  Love Gill xx

  • How strange when you just mentioned it, sad too really for her to compare you to her husband like that, you handled it all really well though, I don’t think I would of even given her the time of day… specially after so much time has passed..

  • Hi Gill, Sorryif I rekindled your love of ginger.i think you can buy most things on the internet these days!

I have had a text from Mandy, Eddie's daughter to say he is taking some time and stepping back from the Forums just now. We all know he does too much and now it is his time to get taken care off and pampered by his family, who will do a great job I'm sure.

I know Eddie took part in a lot of the Forums and if you don't mind Big Steve, would you let the Prostate Group and any other Groups you know he is in. Or anyone else who is in another Group Eddie is in. I have let the Incurable Group know already! I will keep you posted when Mandy updates me again! Thanks!

  • Aw, I do hope he's ok Annette.  He does do a tremendous lot to help others and is a seriously popular guy.  When you get the chance, please could you pass on to Mandy how much he'll be missed and to get his feet up and take things easy?  And please send him all our love.  Thanks Annette xxx

  • Thanks Gill, I have actually already told her how popular her dad is and how much he will be missed but it is time he took care of himself now and although he will be missed here, it is good to know he is well taken care of, so that's what counts! Enjoy your weekend. Here in Scotland it is still 22C at passed midnight and it is to be a hotter day today (Saturday). We are just not used to this whereas Eddie was saying it was 31C the day his youngest daughter got married and 34C in the Marquee! Wow how do you cope with those temps, it is too hot here for me when it is 20/21C. Take care.

  • Thanks lass.  Yes, it's good to know he's well looked after and like you said, time for him to be pampered.  I'm cut up as I've always found him to be a smashing guy to everyone he interacts with Two hearts

Aye, it's still warm here but not as muggy.  Have a lovely day tomorrow and you relax too.

    Love Gill xxx

  • Hi Gill, Yes you are right. I met him for lunch, ice cream & coffee, the first week of our holiday. It was the Friday before Sarah's wedding. I tried to tell him it was too far to come because we met a few weeks ago in Glasgow when he was going to his aunts but he insisted! It was a lovely afternoon. He brought me delicious scones and I took him Macaroon Bars (his favourite) and some fudge & tablet! Sleep well if you can in this heat!
