Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • At least I only need to take them on the day I get chemo... I managed to get to sleep around 5 and woke at 10 so 5 hours ain't too bad and feeling ok this morning... glad to hear you had a good night's sleep... now up to watch some more tennis... do you watch Wimbledon?

  • Yeah but usually the later rounds.  I used to watch tennis a lot back in the day, mainly for the spectacular tantrums thrown by McEnroe and his ilk, but they tend to behave themselves better now. Lol.

Well I'm glad you got some sleep and hopefully feel better for it.  It's had the opposite effect on me; zombie like and clumsy - can't win!

I'm glad you don't need the steroids all the time and definitely enjoy the tennis.  Good stuff!  xxx

  • I’m usually the one looking after everyone else and it’s hard knowing I’ll be away from my work colleagues for a while they really are like family, I really want to get them all a small (hopefully temporary) parting gift, nothing too expensive as I’m going to need to save as much as I can to see us through while I’m out of work… any ideas? I’ve been looking at key rings, or pocket hug gems… I was thinking of adding a personal note or card with each one… thoughts?

I’m hoping it’ll help keep me busy while I wait for the next few appointments.

  • Hi Xpcting worse  hoping 4 best,

Can I wish you a very warm welcome to our little thread, even though I'm so sorry you find yourself here, now I'm a guy, and I'm guessing like you, your workmates are ladies, but I do have many close female friends who love personal gifts, handmade especially, though they do love pocket hug gems, I love arts and crafts groups, many of which are free, where I make, cards, pictures, jewellery, and patchwork for free, and I'm no whizz at it, but do make a few nice bits which I gift to friends, and their always well received, I tend to do them as much in my spare time now, as with the group, my very best wishes for your upcoming appointments, and hope your back amongst your buddies at work before you know it

    love Eddie and Sheila xx

  • Hi there and welcome from me too.

Eddie's given you some great ideas for gifts there (I never knew how talented he was at craft) and a personal note with each would add a lovely touch.  If you're a bit pushed for time though, keyrings would be well received too.  I'm my fella's carer and when he was having RT we took patient transport for the full six weeks.  All the drivers were fantastic but we made a special friend of one of them.  So, on our final trip we gave her an angel keyring with a message on the card.  She loved it and hung it in the ambulance she drove.

You sound like a caring person, so I'm sure your colleagues will be made up with any gifts they receive.

Here's hoping your appointments go well and good luck with them.

    Gill xx

PS I don't know what pocket hug gems are but they sound cute!

  • So I'm back from our holiday in France and first night home I'm awake at 3:45, I think the heat didn't help.

I slept really well in the motorhome, maybe the wine helped with that Wine glassJoy

  • Morning Helen.

Great that you holidayed in France as it's a beautiful place.

Maybe we should all invest in a motorhome as those who use them always seem to sleep well.  Wine is less expensive though...

  • I don’t think I’d fit my ‘kids’ in a motor home, so I’ll have to stick to wine Joy xxx

  • You'd need a separate motorhome for those three fur balls along with a refrigerated van for their chow!

    Hugs xxx

  • I always sleep better in the motorhome for some reason.

I was up at 4am today, washing is done!
