Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Yay Gill ... you got some sleep, that's excellent news, well done lass.

Hope your and H's appointment goes well this afternoon x

  • Hi Sheelagh, I got off to sleep about 1 am but woke about 5.30 ... I didn't switch my phone on because I was hoping I might drift off for another hour or two.  No such luck!  I wish I'd come on here now, we could have had a chat.  I haven't been following all the threads on here but gather you are awaiting news.  It is awful, very stressful waiting to find out news.  People told me that is the worst part and that it gets easier after that.  In a way they were right.  Hang in there and keep chatting on here if you feel like it.  I don't think you were doing anything wrong so try not to be frustrated with yourself.  I think it was just a quiet night last night on here but everyone is so lovely and eager to offer support x

  • Hi Tinkerbell and thank you!

I feel more groggy now than if I'd had my usual couple of hours.  Can't win at this sleeping game can we? Lol!

Oh, I think we'll be in for a telling off this afternoon - it's for physio and lazybones H hasn't been putting his heart and soul into the exercises.  Not looking forward to that!

Hoping you're having a good day my lovely and everyone else too.

    Love Gill xx

  • Well you'll be feeling groggy now - shock to the system no doubt ... your body will be saying "sleep, what is this strange and new experience?"  but I reckon it will have done you good Thumbsup

All the best for your telling off this afternoon ... I got told off yesterday too.  I had an appointment at the hospital which all went really well.  Afterwards, me and my much better other half decided to treat ourselves in a well known coffee shop, to some fancy cold drinks.  Just as they were about to start (they hadn't poured anything yet) I asked ooh could I have oat milk.  I'm not allergic so it wouldn't have mattered but know they do alternative milks and so thought I would.  A 5 minute lecture (felt like an hour) on how I should have said when I ordered.  In front of other customers.  Was supposed to be a treat, a little pleasurable reward to myself!  I think actually, it started as a telling off and then I think they were trying to dig themselves out of a whole but were digging deeper and deeper ... I'm familiar with digging myself in to a whole so know the signs!

Hope your telling off isn't too unbearable.  You take care too my lovely x

  • Hi again Tinkerbell.

We're in the waiting area now. I've got a host of excuses lined up but doubt they'll wash!

I bet you felt like a naughty schoolgirl in the café after getting it in the neck?  Crikey, I feel like we're waiting outside the Head's office!  Fingers crossed he doesn't get too rattled with us!

Probably bump into you later in the witching hour.

    Take care love, Gill xx

  • I really did ... I kept apologising and emphasing how I didn't really mind either way, and I normally do but I forgot, and I'm sorry again and I'm just tired this time and forgot and I'm sorry and yes I will do next time!

Good luck with the Head, oops I mean physio! I reckon they won't be as bad as you fear ... fingers crossed anyway! Keep reeling off your excuses ... I'd believe you ...

Yes will surely bump into you again one of these nights x

  • Hi Jane, Wave I saw your name flash up on my notifications a few days ago.  Like Eddiel I wanted to say a thank you to you for making me feel welcome a few months ago when I was at the start of my "journey" on this site.  I don't sleep well these days so will maybe get to chat again with you during the nocturnal hours x

  • Hi Tinkerbelle38,I recognised your name too,how are you ? I’ve only just joined this awake group.I’m glad it’s here as a lot of people find sleep difficult.Love Jane x

  • I'm not too bad thank you ... Still fighting the good fight.  Spend more time at hospital than any other place at the moment but know I'm not alone in that! Seems to be quite a common experience.  I reward myself with a little treat but think I need to stop making these food and drink related, or I will be unable to fit in my clothes at this rate ... my waistband is already feeling a little snug!  Let me know if you have any ideas.  How are you? x
