Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

I'm no celeb, just cunning.  My mates and me would position ourselves over an advertising hoarding with our scarves draped over it.  It worked inasmuch we knew what to look out for on MOTD and would catch fleeting glimpses of ourselves from a distance.  Once, though, the camera panned in on Emlyn Hughes taking a throw-in; we were right behind him and could see our silly, grinning faces very clearly.  It was pretty embarrassing if I'm honest.  That's the reality of my very tenuous claim to fame.  Eddie's is much more impressive, with pictorial archive evidence!!

  • Morning Steve,

Well, your story beats Eddie's!  You've just gone into the lead - back of the net!

The only one of our trio of wannabe stars who owned a colour telly, was our mate who lived on a farm.  Sometimes we'd have a sleepover there, enabling us to appear in glorious technicolour.  Autographs may become available...

No Steve, not fans of the BCR - we were deeply into northern soul.  Our dress code was in an attempt to lure this skinhead we all fancied.  It was all swagger and bravado and we'd have run a mile if he'd have approached, which he clearly never did!

  • I can just picture you, tartan scarves tied around your wrists, jeans with the tartan on!

I was a bit young.  I was into Slade, my best friend at school was into Sweet.  It was either Slade or Sweet!

My elder (only ) sister was well into the BCR, and David Cassidy!

They don't make pop groups like they used to anymore!

  • Gill, whenever I want to relax I listen to 'Pick of the Pops' on BBC Sounds, my favourite years are between 1974 and 1979, the music transports me back to when I was at school... and the memories!

Then into the 80's, from 1980 to 1984 to when I started working...

  • No tartan at all, although we did cheer Scotland on as half their national squad was made up of our guys.  I was madly in love with Joe Jordan - even with his top teeth out!

My ex-husband (RIP) was the spitting image of Noddy Holder - even his hair.  The likeness was uncanny!  He too, was into Slade but sounded nowt like Noddy when he sang.

  • Hi Steve, I thought that about Gilly too, singing and dancing along to shang-a-lang, but didn't like to say in case she was a led zeppelin fan,

    Eddie xx

  • Hi Eddie.  You guys have got me all wrong - I did, and still do, enjoy listening to all the 70s sounds.  We always watch the TOTP repeats on Friday nights but don't care for the 90s episodes as most of the groups were bonkers!  During my misspent youth I was into northern soul, (keep the faith) Motown and blues.

l'm older than you and Steve, so our music tastes differ.  My fella's six years younger and he was into punk - not a fan at all I'm afraid.

Hey Eddie, fingers crossed tightly for Lesley.  I pray she gets a positive outcome.

  • I can 'picture the scene'

    Steve (SteveCam)

  • I hated northern soul, was it the flares?  Was it because I couldn't dance?  Or was it because...who knows!

I was into Punk, not a punk, just liked it.  More into new wave and then new romantics in the 80's.

My favourite record of all time is 'What becomes of the brokenhearted' by Jimmy Ruffin.

  • Picture this one, Steve.

We were home to Newcastle, early 70s, strutting around and thinking we were rock hard.  At half time we went to the loos but encountered a group of Newcastle lasses.  They took one look and immediately gave chase - we didn't fancy our chances so scarpered, post haste, totally bricking it!

Jeez, those girls could have been Biffa Bacon's sisters!  Muvva...
