Are you having trouble sleeping?
Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.
“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

Hi Ray and ShimmeringUnicorn…not what I expected to be typing in the middle of the night I’m new here. Sorry if it’s rude to jump in. Your f***..f key comment made me laugh. Afraid I have a smart phone but I can appreciate not having one…at least I think i can…. I’m actually surprised this thread is as ‘old school’ as it is and not instant messages like msn back in the 90s.
Hello and welcome Katie. This is a sub-forum in which almost anything is discussed (within the rules). It has a lovely, caring 'atmosphere' which can be useful at odd times of the night but it is often active during the day as well. I don't own a smartphone, not because I'm anti-tech but because my hands are somewhat unsteady, making small touch screens very difficult to use. Keyboards are fine. Ray x
Thanks for the welcome Ray ️ understandable on the touch screens. I ended up with my dad’s Apple Watch last year because he only realised after spending crazy money on it that his man fingers were too big for the tiny screen! Poor dad but lucky me. Sorry to see you also can’t sleep - is this UK only?
my mum just told me she’s been diagnosed with breast cancer today/yesterday and now my brain won’t turn off. I’m not sure why we evolved to stay up in the night over stress - counter intuitive if you ask me. Hopefully we both nod off soon. Or are you up for a while usually?
Sorry to hear of your mum's diagnosis. Cancer is always a scary and stressful word to hear when visiting the medical professionals. This website has a wide range of forums for specific cancers and there are others for carers. Many of the members of this sub-forum are also members of the other forums. I'm a stray from the Bladder Cancer lot.
Some members tune in when on holiday in different time zones, one or two live abroad. I'm in the UK. I live alone so have no-one to bang on the ceiling demanding that I keep sensible hours. Being retired helps as well . I'll be heading upstairs fairly soon. It is a bit late even for me.
You and your mum will probably feel a bit more settled once the medical team has advised you of the detailed diagnosis and, more importantly, the treatment options. Hopefully, you will find moral support from this and other forums if you choose. The website also has supportive services such as a daytime phone number and downloadable booklets which provide useful information for specific cancers. Best wishes for some constructive news for your mum and yourself soon. xx
I expect everyone is asleep now, I have woken up after the usual 3 hours, feeling quite rough as the side effects from last Wednesday are having fun with my body. Definitely worse this time as it is an accumulation of six months' treatment but it's the last time it should be this tricky. I hope.
I'll try to get back to sleep as I am not even catching up during the day at the moment. No plans for Sunday though, so a lazy day planned.
Hello, sorry to hear about your mum's diagnosis, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in March this year and it's terrifying especially as I live alone. I have no family in the same country and no social circle here, but I am getting through it with the help of this forum. Chat away - there are some lovely people on here.
Oops, this is a reply to a post several hours ago, sorry! (About algorithms).
