Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Lordy Gill, you've got a busy week. The best of luck with it all hon Four leaf clover

Not too bad for us this week, hopefully. Doc's on Wednesday for OH's PSA test and loads more sorting for me. Boo hiss! It's next Wednesday's ENT clinic that I always dread but I'll try not to dwell on it.

Try for a decent sleep tonight Gill, with having an early start tomorrow Fingers crossedxxx

  • Evening Sonia Relaxed

P️hew, that's such a relief about Sophia and back to school tomorrow. Tough girl Muscle

Talking of tough hon, the last leg this week and then it'll be time to get plenty of rest in. It seems to have flown but I'll bet Prince and yourself will be glad to see the back of all the travelling.

Take it easy tonight sweetie and look forward to Friday. Are you planning on ringing the bell Bell when you've completed your RT hon? xxx

  • Evening Gill thank you for your kind reply. We certainly will be glad to see the back of all the travelling. I am ready for a rest now Gill. I don't mind going to appointments but not every day for 4 weeks! Hope your sorting is going well sweetie. Don't forget to rest.xxx

  • I'm resting now hon, as I've washed up and tidied round.

You must be worn out my lovely. I felt it after going with OH every day for his RT and I wasn't even getting the treatment!

Prince has done you proud and this is for him Trophy xxx

  • Aww thanks so much I will tell him. Don't know what I would have done without him. He deserves a treat and I will treat him.xxx

  •   siiiigh! Stressy errupted earlier but mellowed and cheered up in pub. Sadly just as we were about to leave, someone he knows turned up. Like catmint! I knew the 'one more beer' stated as I left wasn't going to be the case. He was supposed to be on his way to make tea.

I rang him an hour n half ago to tell him that to the right of the bar is the door and that is how you get out of the pub. Clearly this info wasn't enough!

H️ope you enjoyed your Sunday lunch

    Cheers

  •   hello again.

For some people cancer comes along and pulls the rug from under them, disrupting plans,  bringing uncertainty and mountains to climb. For others, life may already be a struggle, they may already be  spinning many plates, and this tidal wave comes and washes over the tenuous grip they have on 'just about coping.'

Given the site glitches I will post this bit

  •   You have said that you have a lack of support both practical and emotional. Running your own business clearly needs you to be ok most of the time and all this adds to your struggles.

I am very disappointed to hear that when you reached out to Samaritans you felt dismissed. Hopefully you may feel able to give them another try as it is individuals who respond and hopefully you would get a more productive match next time.

I will not be presumptuous regarding the ways in which your neurodivergence affects how you experience life. I have worked with children and young adults with autism and have several neurodivergent friends. I know that for one of my friends, they feel things very deeply which others are able to brush off more easily. A lack of response to your posts here and being brushed off by the helpline were obviously distressing.

I am so glad to see you posting when there is a greater chance of replies, just because more folk are about and the site may be behaving slightly better.

    Cheers

Thank you so much for your reply. I have contacted the Samaritans a few times but this is the first time I have felt dismissed. I always hesitate before I call them as I am sure there are people more in need of them. Sometimes there is nobody available when I call.

Regarding my neurodivergence, I am normally happiest on my own, although in normal times I show my dogs as the venues in the summer are outdoors and I can choose to talk to people or not. But I haven't seen my dogs since early May, and they have been my main emotional support. With my treatment and associated side effects as well, my whole world has been smashed to pieces and suddenly, I am looking for support for the first time in my life.

This forum had already helped though, for which I am grateful.

  • Evening dd and welcome to the group. It sounds like you are missing your dogs terribly. They become family. I have had dogs and more recently cats I prefer them to people sometimes. I lost my last cat beauty to cancer she was only 6. I hope you find comfort in them being well looked after. Sending hugs and love.xxx
