Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Well I hope you enjoyed it while you ate it Joy

    Cheers

  • Do you have good transport links around the town centre?

My busy arty pal has an OH who very definitely isn't.

    Cheers

  • The transport is pretty good with fairly regular buses to all the cities we're slap bang in the middle of.

Our problem where we live is the bus station is just over a mile away and OH walks slowly, so if it's raining heavily, or icy, then we'll either get soaked or risk injury. That's the reason behind all the taxis. It's not a problem if I'm on my own as despite my advancing years I still walk full steam ahead. OH just can't keep up any more.

I miss our car every single day. I'm even thinking about learning to drive but I wasn't that great when I tried 20 odd years ago - far too impatient xxx

  • I'm so sorry for my words i used thay just come out i hope you took it on the smile and you had a giggle with it

  • I'm a bit late to the party tonight (3-50am). I hope one and all are getting at least some peaceful sleep. No doubt I'll be slow to get up tomorrow... errr later today. My son has been servicing my car today...meaning yesterday... (new front brake discs and pads). I should have been helping but I was out of commission for over an hour unblocking my catheter. He'd done the job when I came downstairs again. Tomorrow i.e. later today, he's doing oil and filters. I'll try to be a bit more useful if I wake up in time Grinning.  xxx

  • Morning Ray, for when you've come round Relaxed

I️ was awake till around 2ish and then crashed, otherwise I'd have responded to your post hon. It's so handy having someone to service your jalopy, so good lad your son. You can do the honours by supplying cuppas when he comes to finish the job.

So far this morning I've had to get the boiler back on, as the beggar had decided to go out! I'm hoping that's it for glitches today but it's a slim one.

Hoping yours is glitch free my lovely, and take it easy xxx

Sorry I've been quiet in the meantime. I spent yesterday morning in tears having lost all confidence in looking at a few notifications that came in around 8 am. I rang the Samaritans where I was fobbed off after a few minutes despite being obviously in distress, more tears and despair. Then I was tormented by over 100 email notifications on my phone yesterday, driving me mad. I thought I had switched that off but again, I can't seem to get a lot of things to work on this site. Several messages to prove I am human due to 'dodgy content' (not specified).

    Now in tears again.

Last chemo on Wednesday, then maybe I can start to recover from the horrendous side effects, including worsening depression as well as crazy sleep patterns.

  • Dear Dogdays,Sorry you are feeling so down.Do keep posting here as it is a supportive group.Unfortunately there are currently a few problems with the site and sometimes our messages disappear before they arrive. It is immensely frustrating when you need the support or want to support someone and you are not able to do so easily.I’m so sorry you didn’t get help from the Samaritans. You are going through a lot and I’m sending my best wishes for your last chemo.Take care and stay around as the people here are all around to offer support.Love Jane xx

  • Morning Gill Sun with face but what an awful time you've had and especially with the Samaritans! I thought their job was to listen to folk in distress, so no wonder you've been upset.

Well we'll listen hon, even though we're not trained, and try to get you back on an even keel.

Here's my contribution. I had a look at your profile and was met with a photo of 2 of the most gorgeous dogs ever Two hearts I'm guessing Henry is the Dalmatian but unsure of Daizy's breed - a mix of basset and beagle maybe? You can put me straight but I fell in love with them instantly and showed my OH their picture. We can't have any animal because of circumstances mainly down to what happened since his cancer, but seeing others' dogs and cats always cheers us up.

Oh dear, I can understand your tears as OH suffers badly with depression. It was his birthday yesterday but he kept crying at the slightest thing and all I could do was comfort him. What with that and my own oddball sleeping pattern it's a wonder we don't fall apart but I'm not about to let that happen, no siree. I'll drag us into the next day if that's what it takes!

I'm wishing you the very best for Wednesday when I'm sure you'll be so happy to finish your chemo and start recovering. Give yourself plenty of time to get over the effects and be kind to yourself too - no fretting over things that can't be changed or altered my lovely.

Today just relax if you can, drink soothing cuppas and get your feet up. I'd do the same but I've got loads of jobs waiting for me to get on with - I must have been a right rotter in a previous life!

Sending you warm hugs over to the ROI, where I imagine it must be glorious xxx
