Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • I've no idea what VAR stands for and can't be bothered to look it up .... so stab in the dark ... Value Added Ref ??? Lol Laughing

  • You’ve clearly got as much interest as me Deb, which is zero! I just keep out of the way when the football’s on-it’s easier that way.

  • Thanks Deb

I am Type 2 diabetic so watch my sugar intake already and of course I have to be careful with my feet.  I'm wearing Skecher sandals most of the time at the moment which have a shaped insole but I wouldn't be able to keep an insole in them and I'm not wearing shoes in this heat! My Oncologist did say it could take a while to go.  I haven't completely lost the feeling so that's the main thing.  I did have it in my fingers too but that seems to have mostly settled.

  • Lol!  video Assisted Referee - a pointless and highly annoying exercise.

Enough of that tripe!  Hope everyone is ok today but I don't think Helen's having much luck posting photos.  It was Eddie who gave me a tutorial so hats off to him, as I'm quite the thicko with stuff like that.

No appointments with lymphoedema nurse for 12 months as she's pleased with how we're doing.  Phew.

    Lots of love xxx

  • Hi Chloe, there are some wonderful angels still working for the NHS, and you can nominate a nurse or team for an award, through the RCN, or the Daisy Foundation which is a care and compassion award, and you would hope every department would have a suggestion box for constructive advice. There's always the option of giving the nurses a gift as well and you could mention your thoughts, good nurses are always open to ways of improving care practices

I'm ok my friend, just tired, hospice today and counselling, meeting friends for lunch then a massage this afternoonGrinning, fab weather too.

I hope your feeling a little better today after some decent sleep.

    love Eddie and Sheila xx

  • Oooh Sarah, wouldn't that be something to leave your wheel chair behind, I will have everything crossed for you my friend, can I ask, is your surgeon Dr A. B?, and sadly the parking is still horrendous, but slightly better with a blue badge, my advice is to have very early, or late appointments.

I will let Annette know, and tell her not to worry, and isn't the weather wonderful.

    love Eddie and Sheila xx

  • Hi Sarah,I’ll keep everything crossed that your arthritis can be helped. You so deserve to get your mobility back.Lots of love Jane xx

It took me a while to work out how to upload a photo so I appreciate it’s not that easy when you first try to do it.

Helen, you need to click on the “insert” arrow below when you’re replying to a post, and then click on “image/video/file”where you can upload a photo from your own library if that’s what you’re looking to do.

Good news you’re both managing with the  lymphoedema, Gill.

  • Thanks so much, Jane. I’m disappointed and pretty annoyed that this was identified in a scan in 2023 and no-one thought to tell me, I could have been getting help at that point and not getting to the stage where I can’t walk and am in permanent pain. But no point in looking back-I have made the decision to go ahead with the surgery, assuming that’s what suggested.

Getting a referral in less than a week means that my gp definitely thinks I need this and the thought of walking again is spurring me on despite not wanting yet more surgery!
