Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Hi Gilly, has everyone's insomnia gone, or are they all on their holidays, it would be lovely to  think both were true, how are things in the wild west..-Yorkshire, I do hope you and hubby are in a good place, so what have you been up to my friend?, hopefully whatever that may be, it was enjoyable for you both.

    Eddie xx

  • Hi Eddie and smashing to hear from you.

Aye, things have gone quiet so I hope everyone's well too.  Yep, hubby and me are fine thanks, but it's been a sombre few days as Debbie, our lovely friend, had to say farewell to one of her beautiful big dogs, Buck.  He'd been poorly but she took the bravest, and kindest, decision and he's now over the bridge with his friends.  Oh Eddie, there's been lots of tears but she sent us the most heartwarming photos of her doggy family; I'm gulping as I type.  We've all been there but it doesn't get easier.

How are you my friend, and Sheila?  Hopefully doing as well as you can and looking forward to visiting Ayr and Belfast soon.  Take good care and hugs xxx

  • Hi

I don't sleep most nights! Not that it's that late yet.

Just been diagnosed with most probably cancer on my heart!! Needs to be removed have a date for this.

    Feels enormous!!!

Never heard of anyone with heart cancer!!

    Never going to sleep tonight.

  • Evening Gardenshed.

I've never heard of that either.  Is there even a forum on the site pertaining to it?  More importantly, I hope your specialist has explained everything in detail and tried to ease your understandable concerns.  But don't worry about finding sleep difficult as some of us will be around to chat if you feel up to it.  I'll have to be more sensible tonight as we've got exercise class in the morning, but I'll still be knocking around for a good while yet.

    Hugs xxx

  • Hi Gilly, it's so good to hear from you, and to know you and hubby are doing ok, but how awful for your friend, and understandably you, with the loss of her furry pal Buck, as you say, even knowing it's the right decision, doesn't make it any easier, no matter how many times you go through it, would you want it too. Thankfully the happy memories and the knowledge you gave them a good life full of love, fun, and companionship mends a broken heart.

Awww thank you Gilly, Sheila is fine and I'm ok. Ayr all booked, still hoping to get to Belfast, but just a day trip at most, Sheila won't be going, she's in London with her girl  friends to see some shows, so I will be going with 3 of my girl friends to Ayr.

Nana and I are off to Shropshire to see our son DiL and the little ones on Saturday, but first we have our granddaughter Evie's 6th birthday party in the morning.

    love Eddie and Sheila xx

  • Hi gardenshed, and welcome to our little thread, I noticed you said, probably cancer on my heart, can I ask is that because their not sure if it's in your heart or on the surface, or they're unsure if the growth in cells is cancerous or not, sorry for the questions, but in all my years in healthcare I only came across heart cancer once and believe it being a  primary or secondary is an important factor. I will have everything crossed your treatment goes as well as possible, and sleeping doesn't become a brief visitor to you, good luck my friend.

    Eddie xx

  • Aw, have the most wonderful time with your family and little angels.  It helps enormously to be with those you love when life's trying to be a bugger.

Yes, Debs and her hubby are obviously going through the mill over Buck, but someday they'll be able to shed happy tears, remembering the good times.  We still do, almost three years after we lost our adored little rescue rabbit.  But as you say, we give our lovely furry family members their best lives and nothing can take that away.

Well I bet Sheila will have a great time at the shows as I reckon live entertainment can't be beaten.  You two have lots to look forward to and I wish you the best times.  Fantastic!  We've got exercise class in the morning, but we're going for our dinner in the hospital restaurant immediately after - last week I had a sausage sarnie and a huge cream bun.  I'm not really doing it right, am I?

Anyway, love to you and Sheila and please wish little Evie a happy birthday from us.  Hugs xxx

  • Awww thanks Gilly, that's lovely of you to say, and as well as your birthday wishes, I will give Evie a little hug from you

Someone once said to me, grief is the price of love, a small price maybe, but a difficult one to pay, I often think about my furry friends, which is difficult with aphantasia, but it's always with a smile as I'm sure will be your friends experience one day.

Sheila and her friends do love the theatre, she always says she's going for 4-5 days but invariably it ends up being a week.

Well Gilly, you both work out hard at exercise group, so you deserve a treat and a banger sarnie and cream cake are well earned, it'll be good motivation for tomorrow as well Yum.

    love Eddie and Sheila xx

  • Too true Eddie, and I'm drooling at the thought of the chow right now.  I'll be clock watching, doing the circuits, waiting to sink my gnashers into that sarnie! Yum.

I've never heard that phrase but it's poignant and very true.  I hope Debs finds respite soon as she's got a big heart and gives our little offshoot group lots of support, bless her.

Righto Eddie, I'm going to put on the ghost stories and head to the land of nod.  Aw, a virtual hug for your little angel sounds lovely and I'll don my virtual party hat too.  There'll be reality when I take my first bite out of the cream bun though...

Night night my friend and sleep tight xxx
