Hello everyone

I am a 39 years old mum of a 3,5 year old and an 11 month old. I found a tiny lump a few weeks ago and immediately told my GP. Turned out to be cancer with a tiny amount in my underarm lymph too. I am not triple negative and am estrogen positive so I’m now looking at chemo, surgery, radiotherapy and several years of hormone therapy.
has anyone been through or is going through a similar experience?
thanks so much

  • I felt exactly the same, my mind went to all kinds of dark places and panic etc.
I eat very cleanly normally anyway and I eat very little red meat so my ferritin levels are often a little low which I need to watch but I have been told to not follow anything strict or extreme and to just eat a balanced diet. I have stopped drinking though and have cut out all refined sugar but I didn’t eat much of the stuff anyway.
move just ordered an Indian take away 2 minutes ago as that’s what I fancy tonight so I’m rolling with that! I was told when you’re on chemo your tastes change so just eat what you feel like.
I also normally drink a lot of green tea which I’ve cut out as caffeine won’t be helpful and you apparently need to be careful with high levels of anti oxidants. If you look online there’s a whole host of quite extreme fasting diets while on chemo mixed with vitamin c IV’s. My doctor said don’t go near the high levels of vitamin C as it can counter what the chemo is trying to achieve.
I felt terrible the day I had chemo but after since then I’ve just felt spaced out, no sickness. I’ve also from today started to feel tender and achy all down my neck which is a new symptom xx

  • I m pescatarian since I turned 14. Always eaten very healthy but not obsessed with my diet. Always had nice and naughty things over weekend but super good the rest of the week. I will need to stop mRelaxed supplements then, thank u for the tip. I m reassured about side effects of chemo, thank you for writing about them. I love herbal teas, I m thinking ginger tea in case of nausea. I would really likRelaxed to speak to a dietician if they have one in my hospital. But like u said, eat what u fancy and make sure it is clean food, not processed. Enjoy your take away Relaxed️ xx

  • So I’ve switched to a lemon and ginger herbal tea and that’s now my go to!
the doctor asked me and I’m sure they will ask you what supplements you plan to take. I said I was planning a vitamin d supplement and a multivitamin and she said that was fine. Apparently it’s just the very very high dose antioxidants they are wary about.
let me know how you get on. Have you tested positive in the lymph also? X

  • Yes, positive in lymphs, just on one side so they will take them out after chemo. At the moment I take 500mg vit c, 50 mg of Q10, vit b12 few times a week, magnesium as I exercise regularly, vit d 25mcg fee times a week in summer time. I will do what they tell me to stop or start. I just wanna get better. In my home country people drink beetroot juice once on chemo or just after. I need to check that as well. Xx

  • I’m drinking loads of that! I’m a big fan of cold pressed juice so I’m spending a small fortune on the stuff Joy
but yes anything you are not sure of ask them even if you think it’s a silly question.
I even asked about things like going in a steam room or having a massage etc. Apparently there you need to be careful not to have a deep tissue one x

  • I ve already have a page of questions for them. I m just hoping I won't start hating beetroot Wink but I m prepared to stick to it and more. Thank you so much for this chat. I will let you know next week after have seen oncologist and what they are giving me. Xx

  • Good luck and let me know how it goes. My main thing I am trying to teach myself is to trust all these amazing people who will help us and to listen to everything they say. I get very paranoid that maybe they’ve missed something and it’s worse than it is etc but I need to stop doing that x

  • Yes, totally understand. Working as a pharmacist I have seen a lot of people coming for more advice as they were not trusting their GP or they were simply fobbed off. It is no crime to ask more people for advice but I think take a step back, keep it simple, stick to advice from pros and breath. It can be too overwhelming. Xx

  • Hi. Sorry I didn't write last week. I hope u are well. So I will get TCHP next week and scalp cooling. Have you been offered it at all?!

  • Hi,

Great that you are starting chemo next week, do you know what type you are having? Yes I was offered the cold cap but I decided against it. I actually started losing my hair last night, it all suddenly started to fall out so I had it shaved off today by my hairdresser. I have bought some really nice turban style hats by a French designer I found online and have been very happy wearing them:)

I have my second round of chemo next tuesday. Have you had all your scans yet?
