Hello, I was diagnosed with HER2+ ER+ & PR+ breast cancer. Stage one, grade three. in October 2023.
I had surgery, then chemotherapy, radiotherapy. I had two TIA's which meant that I didn't have tamoxifen. I finished treatment in May 2025.
I haven't had a period since November 2023, and presumed that I had completed menopause; but this week I have started bleeding. I have now been referred to the hospital under the 2 week wait.
I am feeling really scared that either the breast cancer has become metastatic and spread to my womb, or I have a new cancer.
Does anyone have any thoughts - I am trying to stay calm and not panic, but treatment was so hard - I am not sure if I can go through it again...
Thank you, Bianca
Hi Bianca. I’m sorry you must be worried sick. Let’s try and think rationally. Are you on any medication? I have heard that ovaries can start working again after chemotherapy so maybe this is it especially if you are not on tamoxifen which is a hormone blocker.
Please try not to worry. I believe signs of metastatic breast cancer is back pain and bone pain. I’ve not heard of bleeding being a sign.
Thank you so much for replying - I do feel really worried tbh - I have done a check of the drugs that I am on and none of them have links to post menopausal bleeding...
Yes - once chemotherapy is completed then, your body wakes up, so to speak. I was thinking I had gone into a crash menopause, so wasn't expecting any bleeding...
I have Osteochondromatosis which means I have lots of bone pain all of the time...so it is hard to differentiate whether it is old or new pain...
I guess I have to be patient - which is a theme of cancer treatment, wait for my hospital appointment - which will hopefully bring good news and if doesn't - then hopefully I have recognised this early - and the earlier the better.
Thank you again - it is nice to have rational thinkers, as my rational brain had vanished.
