Hi. I am brca2 positive and had her 2 negative bc last year.
I had radiotherapy in October and chemo prior to that.
My oncologist said that with the radiotherapy the other breast would get a small amount of radiation and given I am brca 2 positive it could “trigger the gene” and cause another cancer in that breast. I’m obvs worried sick about that, could I get a different cancer in that breast, I’m on medication to prevent getting the same cancer that had been removed last year and one of those drugs I am on for 2 years and the plan is when I come off that I will have my other breast removed.
When I spoke with my genetics doctor she said she has not heard of radiation triggering the gene. She said the gene doesn’t get “triggered”.
Just wondered if anyone had any knowledge of this?
