Hi all, i am a BRAC2 carrier and I have had breast cancer and double mastectomy and 15 years a recurrence. My son inherited the BRAC2 and gets tested regularly. His wife has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and also has been confirmed as having the BRAC2 gene. Genetics have just been intouch and said their 3 year old son must be tested right away as if he has inherited both their BRAC2 gene it can be very serious. Has anyone ever heard this before.

I am sorry your family is facing this challenge. If I understand this correctly, your grandson has a 25% chance of having inherited the BRCA2 gene defect from both parents, a 50% chance of having inherited a single copy, and a 25% chance of having inherited neither. As you say having both can be very serious. I hope that’s not the case. It will be rare because being a carrier of a BRCA2 defect is not common so it’s very uncommon for a couple to both be carriers.
