Hello,
wondering if any other lady of a similar age is in my position.
I found out last week I am BRCA2+ following testing after my mum’s diagnosis of stage 3 high grade serous ovarian cancer last Nov. She’s completed chemo, NED, and is now on olaparib and bevizicumab for the next 2 years.
i have a call with the genetics team to discuss my options and formulate a risk assessment specific to me; and I’ve also been referred for a high risk MRI. While it’s good to know this sort of thing to be able to plan to prevent, it’s also pretty terrifying and I am scared they’ll pick something up on the MRI. Wouldn’t be the first to find something while no other symptoms present after all…
Trying to keep busy and keep my mind off it, and have already asked to have my fallopian tubes removed; she wouldn’t refer me for that until after our call in a few weeks. I guess I just want to know if anyone else opted for fallopian tube removal or did the ovaries too? I’ve heard medically induced menopause can be incredibly rough so I’m not really sure what to do.
Thanks in advance x

Hi LH24,
I'm going through a similar experience. Following my mums battle with ovarian cancer it was discovered she has BRCA1. My auntie, sister and my myself have since found out we all have it too. That was about 18 months ago and I've since had 2 MRIs. I totally understand how overwhelming and scary this can all be. The one thing that has helped me a lot is hearing other people's stories and experiences through brca_chat (Instagram). They have online support groups which can be really useful and provide a huge amount of really useful information.
I have a gynecology appointment in a few weeks where I'll be asking to have my fallopian tubes removed. It wasn't an option offered to me at my first appointment last year but I've since heard many other women have been given the option. At the moment I gave quarterly CA125 blood tests and annual ultrasounds.
It's a lot to take in when you first find out, I hope that you're able to find a supportive group to help you through it and good luck with your first MRI.
x
