My father passed away on 10 July and I'm really struggling, he was my best friend and I miss him every day.
He had been ill for a couple of years. The local GP tried various antacids, nothing seemed to ease the issue. Eventually, they took blood and urine samples. There was blood in his urine, which triggered several appointments at urology departments in the area. They all seemed to find the same thing, a buildup of fluid in his abdomen, which may need further investigation.
After a month or so of various tests, I called in to see him after work (as I did every day) and found him vomiting blood. He was admitted to hospital, and after a few days, an OGD was performed. He had a 10cm mass where his oesophagus joined his stomach. He was discharged and told "There is nothing we can do".
I was told that the hospital would be in touch within a couple of weeks. After a week, I rang them and was told that they had referred him to another hospital, and we had to wait for an appointment date.
He sat at home waiting for a month, with no treatment aside from antacids and Fortisip, waiting for his appointment.
He had an appointment on 7 July, where the consultant asked him if he knew what was happening, he replied "I'm dying".
My father passed away on 10 July. Three days later.
