I lost my dad (60) this week to metastatic bowel cancer after losing my mum (58) 2 and a half years ago to cancer also.
The loss of both parents at my age (34 and an only child) is devastating. I feel like I can get through the motions of the funeral (it’s not my first rodeo) but it’s everything after that and existing without my family that’s freaking me out.
Has anyone else had a similar experience at young age?I do have a loving husband and fantastic friends but nobody around me my age understands the utter lost place I am in.
Any advice or words of wisdom would be appreciated ️
I am sorry you have lost both your parents to cancer recently BlackBird155 . I am also an only child and although I was in my 40s when my parents died, I felt quite rootless with no family other than my husband and my own children. There are still moments when I want to tell them something - for example my children graduating, getting married, eventually becoming parents. Grief is tough and the unfairness of them both betting cancer almost certainly adds to how you are feeling. Thinking of you.
