3 days ago we learned my brother has secondary liver cancer. He’s undergoing further tests at the moment to find the full picture.

we’ve been told he may be offered treatment to extend his life, depending what test results find.

I simply cannot comprehend losing my brother. He is married and has 3 children, late teens and early 20s.

I just can’t believe this is happening and don’t know how to support him and his wife and kids when I’m just so devastated.

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to read that your brother has recently been diagnosed with secondary liver cancer and I can understand what a worrying time this will be for all the family.

Waiting for the results of tests can be an extremely stressful time for both the patient and their family but most people say that they feel better and more able to cope once a treatment plan is in place.

I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you also join the secondary liver cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences around treatment with others who have this diagnosis, and also the family and friends group, where you can discuss your worries and get support from others who have a family member living with cancer.

If you'd like to join either or both of these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post your question in the same way as you posted here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

Macmillan have this excellent information on how to support someone with cancer which you might benefit from reading. Both you and your brother's family can speak to someone on the Macmillan Support Line if you feel that talking things through would be helpful. It's free to call them on 0808 808 0000 and they're available every day from 8am to 8pm.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your brother's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Sending a virtual ((hug))
