Just 3 or 4 months ago my sister went to the doctor with (what she thought) a urine infection, it turned out to be incurable cancer of the bladder, a tumour in the back and now it's spread to her one and only kidney!. I've been visiting her in Hospital for the past 3/4 months and I saw her today (she was asleep), I spoke (almost shouted) to her she opened her eyes for a moment and then went back to sleep!. I couldn't get any further response from her!. I know she hasn't been eating for a few days, yesterday I managed to persuade her to have some chocolate drink but I don't think she has any thing else since!. I don't want her to suffer but I can't bear to let her go!. I'am 67, she is 62, I really thought i would die first, now I have to deal with her death!.

I'am not sure I can deal with this, that's why I have had to share this experience!.

  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear how poorly your sister is and it's natural to feel the way you do.

Could I suggest that you post this in the supporting someone with incurable cancer group as it's a safe and supportive place to discuss your emotions about the prospect of losing your sister as well as discuss practical issues around palliative care.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and copy and paste your post from here, to save you typing it out again, after selecting 'start a discussion'. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your sister's journey into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Sending a supportive ((hug))
