Am 6 months from my lovely 67 years old  dad passing away from lung cancer . I still have so many questions but don’t know who to ask . He died within one week of diagnosis. He had only been off work 2 weeks when he passed away . Just before he passed away the doctor wrote down small cell lung cancer following his results. He ended getting a post mortem however the results showed squamous cell which I believe to be NSLC. It also stated moderately differianted. Which has left me confused -  I originally got my head around it being small cell lung cancer as everything I read about that shows it being more aggressive but if it’s squamous cell ( NSLC) I cant help but think he had it ages, it was slow growing  and had been going his GP for 2 years so it’s obviously been missed !

The post mortem showed a 10cm lung cancer tumour, 7 cm liver tumour and tumour on his adrenal glands.

Anyone else come across this and any suggestions on who I can ask for answers ? I have pondered with making a complaint but don’t know if I am up to it but I need answers as I am fretting about it :-(

  • Hello ,

Firstly just wanted to send my sincere condolences for the lose of your Dad. Which I am sure is even more difficult because of how quickly he had passed after his diagnosis. Its sudden lose doesn't give you any time to prepare and I am sure you have a lot of arrangements to make.

Firstly please look after yourself and I hope you have good support at home but please feel free also to give our lovely guys on the support line a call, there open everyday 8:00am to 8:00pm 08088080000 .We also have a lovely lady here called Wendy in our ask an expert section who can answer questions with the bereavement support side, (Missing Forum).

With regards to making a complaint about your Dads doctors, I know for hospitals its the Pals you contact. For GP s I would advise visiting the NHS site Contacting the nhs once you on the NHS site there is a search button where you can add making a complaint. It gives you lots of information on procedure.

Again I very sorry to hear of your lose but remember to take a moment for yourself just to take in everything your still going to be in shock and all kind of emotions must be circling including anger which I totally understand.

Sending you a gentle hug and when your ready, we are all here for you, sadly everyone in this group including myself has suffered lose and all felt different emotions so we all understand. But I feel the important thing your wanting now is answers to how his lung tumors took so long to find. Ask a Nurse here you can ask what all the medical terms mean it helps to understand. Take care xx
