A had a bad night last night - a very, very bad night. He spent most of it in agony while the nurses rallied round him doing the best they could to help him with the pain, but to not much avail. The docs had turned his epidural off earlier in the evening and all was well, I kissed him goodnight and headed home confident in how much better he seemed. A few hours later however, his body decided to start protesting - and…

Things have been much better today. In relation to A it means: he had a great night's sleep; was happy that all the doctors think that he is doing brilliantly in his recovery; got to eat some soup and have some ice cream (he said it was the best food he had ever tasted ..... hmmmm, maybe the anaesthetic affected his brain?!); got to pooh (to the man on the street no cause for celebration but when you've had bits loped…

They were extra pleased with his progress (after a slight high blood pressure and high temperature wibble in the early hours of this morning). I have to say I cannot express what a relief it was to leave the room in the middle of the hospital with no windows and a plethera of noisy buzzing and alarmed machines…

It has been a hell of a day today. I raced to the hospital this morning for half past seven and then A's son and I lurked in corridors waiting for the scary sister to go to another end of the ward before we snuck in to give my lovely A hand squeezes and extra hugs before the op. At about quarter to eight we made the mad dash from the waiting area, across the ward and hid behind a half pulled curtain near his bed. It was…
