Things are looking up! – Day 3 A.S.

1 minute read time.
Things have been much better today. In relation to A it means: he had a great night's sleep; was happy that all the doctors think that he is doing brilliantly in his recovery; got to eat some soup and have some ice cream (he said it was the best food he had ever tasted ..... hmmmm, maybe the anaesthetic affected his brain?!); got to pooh (to the man on the street no cause for celebration but when you've had bits loped out of your colon and stapled on somewhere else this is all good); got to turn his epidural down waaaay low and with the assurance that it will be out by tomorrow morning; got to drink green tea again, and got permission to move around more from tomorrow when they will also be removing is central line and wound drainage bags. These are all really great progress, in fact it is amazing considering he only came out of surgery 3 days ago. As for me? I got to: sleep - proper, restful, happy dream filled delicious sleep which has made me feel a thousand times better; go to lunch with some friends and do a photoshoot (both my idea of a good time); eat some proper food; have a really good hospital visit; have nice chats on the phone with wonderful friends since I got back from the hospital; send naughty texts to my beloved A - and just chill out! I think we both feel vastly improved as a result. I daresay there will be other crappy days in the long journey ahead, but it is good that today we both feel human again. Thank you to everyone for their support through my rubbish bit yesterday - it really, really helped. Sweet dreams everyone. T x

I'm sure A will feel more like himself when he is disconnected from more tubes and drains. I found the wound drain the worse of the lot. For some reason my surgeon decided to put it in very deep, and boy did I know it when it was taken out. No wonder the nurse told me to give myself a shot of morphine and take a deep breath!

A will be home in no time at all. Have you got him a little bell to ring when he needs attention?!!!!

Sound's like Andrew is exceeding all expectations; very impressive, if he continues at this rate he'll be out and home before you know it.  Well done A, keep it up.

I know the feeling when they start to take the tubes and stuff out. Its just great to un-docked from the mother ship and the freedom to be able to get about a bit more rather than looking like a partial Borg assimiliation, (sorry, if you aren't a Trekkie this might not mean anything to you).

If I remember correctly, the next thing to look forward to is taking a nice long shower.

Glad the boy is doing so well T, please send him our best wishes.

    Cheers,  Mike

Glad A is recovering well, and enjoying hospital food, probably better than Tofu!  Mike's right its great to get the drains and tubes out - freedom and no handbag!

Glad you feel more rested and your usually bubbly self.

    Take care

Great to hear of Andrews progress, it has clearly done you both the world of good. My nurse in hospital was called Bena, she took me to a wet room complete with all drains, attachments etc., rigged me up a chair under the shower and boy, was it good. I was too wobbly to do much due to morphine but that shower and a good shave was brilliant. I am eternally gratefull to that lady. One of the surgeons team said 'start planning a holiday, a statement I thought ridiculous at the time, but 8 weeks later we were jetting off, a little tired and still a bit sore but it convinced me I was alive and well. It's all 'future' now, make plans, get your lives back.

Massive Hugs to you both,   Bill xxx
