  • A good round

Round 5 done.No problems. Dad did really well thorugh this one. Tired, yes, but otherwise good.

He's got really bad fluid retention though. His poor little sparrow legs are tight and his feet are very puffed up. Velcro shoes and sports socks are helping. The consultant thinks that this is steroid related so we're trying to bring them back down from 4mg to 2mg.

He's been on 2mg since Tuesday and so far I think…

  • Me, sort of.

Dad's not had another seizure since the first one. He's steady on 4mg of Dex and seems to be ok at that. He is a little confused at times and the passage of time can be a bit wonky. 5 minutes can be 5 hours or vice versa.

The other telling thing is personality. The placid soft hearted man is easily aggravated and not backwards about telling the object of his displeasure. He has little or no patience and if something…

  • New suite, New symptom! (and some very good news :))

Dad got his new suite, and a couple or so hours later had his first and hopefully last seizure. I can honestly say that it is the single most scary thing that has ever happened to me and I thought I'd watched him take his last breath in the most painful way possible. Now I know what it was I'm hoping that I'll be more prepared for it if it happens again.

In the order that I remember it...

    1. He couldn't reply…
  • It's just all so bloody unfair isn't it?

Had a great day with my Dad today. He's been 'tidying' (air quotes) his house, which means about 20 years of junk is now scattered round his house.

I took the day off work and we took a car load to the tip. I'm my fathers daughter though and was rescuing things as we went along, things that will now clutter my house instead!

Also convinced him to take a look at a suite at DFS, which he actually bought…

So, looks like we licked it this time. Might have it prefect in time for the last round!

Because Dad was so completely out of it the last two rounds we had already upped the daily dose of dex to 2mg and decided to try upping to 4mg for the 5 days of treatment and 5 days after.

This seems to have totally worked....or there was something else going on that's now stopped! We were aware of other side effects this time…
