Hello All, after intermittent bleeding on/off on HRT for what seems like forever had hysteroscopy and biopsy taken (2nd in 2 years, 1st one had polyps removed but everything else was ok). Gynae said my endometrium is "not normal' so now waiting for 2 week diagnosis to see if I have uterine cancer. I have Mirena coil which was replaced with a new one and I was told to stop Evorel 50 patches or cut in half, which I have done. I was wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and gone 'cold turkey'. I am now too scared to be on HRT, as I'm thinking that this and the fact that I'm overweight has caused this. Should I just stop the HRT patches now? So anxious at present, the wait is horrible! Is it possible that something was missed 2 years ago when I had my first hysteroscopy and had polyps removed? Can the endometrium become cancerous in that time? Any advice would be great thanks x
Hi Mollys65
I am sorry to hear of your 2 week referral and understand how worrying it is.
The endometrium can look "not normal" for different reasons and it is important to rule out cancer. That is why they do the urgent referral. They always try to rule out the most serious potential causes first.
With the patches it is important to follow the medical advice given and it sounds like the doctor has said either to stop or to cut in half. Why not give the Support Line a call and talk it through with one of the nurses. The number is at the bottom of this.
I would have thought that with your previous hysteroscopy you would have had samples taken and the polyps tested after removal so I would feel reassured that the investigation was thorough at the time.
Endometrial cancer can be different grades and some develop slowly and over time, whereas others can be more aggressive and grow more quickly.
I hope that your results come back quickly but in the meantime we are here if you need us.

Hi
I too am in limbo, got my hysteroscopy on Tuesday, I thought the bleeding had stopped yesterday but it was just taking a nap and it's woken up again today. I was told by my GP to stop the hrt until after the investigations. I'm really hoping that my symptoms are because of the hrt and they can reduce the womb lining with treatment.
Good luck with your tests
Hi, hopefully a change in HRT will sort out your symptoms. HRT is such a minefield, you take it to help with symptoms and then it can cause other problems! Interesting that your GP advised to stop the HRT altogether. The Gynae told me to stop HRT and then backtracked and said just to halve my patch to 25. Not sure if I should have really stopped, but I was thinking that going cold turkey would make me feel awful.... so I have decided to see what to do when I hear back definitively what is going on and what will be happening..... Good luck with all your investigations
Hi, had my letter on Saturday and thankfully it is good news. No atypical cell change or cancer. Apparently the 'abnormal' appearance of the uterine lining was due to the effect of the progesterone in the Mirena coil on an already thickened womb lining. I have been advised to stop my HRT patches (which I have done) as it was stated that my HRT cannot be optimised further to reduce the bleeding. However, I has been recommended that I keep the Mirena coil until I am bleed free for a couple of years. All I can say is that that was the worst 2 weeks of my life, so stressful and I am so relieved. Good luck to all the other ladies on here who are going through this, my thoughts are with you all xxxx
Hi Layla
It's 4am and can't sleep neither. I know the waiting time it's worst try to go out daily, get busy with something. I'm waiting as well the biopsy results, but also in 2023 after biopsy I got results in 2 weeks soo not too long to wait. I know it's hard but what else we can do. Finger crossed to all of us.
