Hi all, i'm new to the forum, and have found reading about everyone's experiences very helpful. A little background on myself. Late last year i had some spotting, and being 3 years post-menopausal knew something wasn't right. I have a history of ovarian cysts so assumed it might be something similar. During the ultrasound it was noted that my lining was 15.3mm, which then led to me being referred for a Hysteroscopy. I had this a couple of weeks later, during which a biopsy was taken, and they also noted a Polyp. I was booked in to have the Polyp removed... The biopsy took 6 weeks to get the results of, and i was contacted just a few days before my Polyp removal to say that i would be seen by the Consultant face to face. It was during that appointment that i was told that Cancer cells had been found. I was told it was grade 1, and a MRI the week later confirmed that it was also stage 1a. I am now having my surgery (robotic hysterectomy) this Friday. I was concerned at my pre-assessment due to having a very high BMI, but i believe that this is why i am having robotic rather than laparascopic. The consultant did tell me that if they are unable to deliver my uterus vaginally, an incision will probably be made along my bikini line to pull it out. I have had a previous surgery 8 years ago where my left ovary/fallopian tube were removed, so at least some of the job has already been done for them. I've been told that i could possibly be sent home that evening if my surgery is early enough in the day, and if i am feeling okay. I am going to the hospital tomorrow for more blood tests - for their group and save, which was something i hadn't heard of before - i didnt realise that they need two samples of your blood for blood transfusion purposes. Feeling anxious about the surgery now i'm a lot older since the last gynae related surgery that i've had. Also hoping that the surgery as the consultant hopes will be the only treatment required. My timeline is first appointment 20th Oct - surgery date 31st January. I will post again at some point to advise how it all went.... thanks for reading.
Good luck for Friday! Hopefully it will all be straightforward and you’ll be home before you know it. I be was diagnosed with stage 1a in July last year and had my hysterectomy ( laproscopically) 3 weeks later. My recovery was quick and I needed no further treatment. Take one procedure at a time. Even though you’re a bit older than you were when you last had surgery, medical knowledge and procedures have both come on so much, hopefully you’ll recover quickly.
I had a robotic laparoscopic hysterectomy at the end of September 2024. I am high BMI as well though I have muscular legs. Anyway, it went well. They kept me overnight which was a relief honestly. I was able to walk to the coffee shop the next morning for coffee so they released me by mid afternoon. I appreciated having the checks by the nurses to ensure I coped well with surgery. I think you will do well too.
Thank you! Glad to hear your recovery was quick after yours and you needed no further treatment. Fingerscrossed mine goes just as smoothly!
thank you. If you dont mind me asking was there a specific reason why they kept you in overnight? did you go down later in the day for the actual surgery? The last time i had laparascopic surgery i also stayed overnight, so i'm anxious as to how i'll feel going home same day.
The operation lasted a long time because the doctor removed everything including the omentum. The operation started a few hours later than expected. I stayed overnight because my oxygen levels were lower than they like. Once I used my CPAP the levels went back to normal. I am currently in the midst of chemotherapy with Paclitaxel and Carboplatin. I’m doing ok with it although I am bald and don’t have much in the way of lashes or brows. They want me to do radiation therapy as well. I have Uterine Serous Carcinoma which is aggressive. I am still researching the options because radiation terrifies me.
They may keep you in overnight too depending on timing and how your body reacts to the surgery. I hope it goes well for you.
Good Luck for Friday, I hope all goes well.
Jane
I found the radiotherapy treatments frightening to begin with but in all honesty they were very doable !
I had 23 external beam therapy
2 Bracktherapy
Exhaustion was the worse side affect for me had some bowel issues ..
Appetite was affected had to watch what I ate to trying and stop bloating !
Just finished My 4 cycles of chemotherapy treatment same as you Paclitaxel and Carboplatin!
Rang the bell
Wishing you well on your journey x
I hope that the rest of your treatment goes well for you. My surgery went well, i was one of the first ones down in the morning to theatre, but they kept me in overnight as my BP kept dropping whilst i was in recovery. Surgery went well, didn't need to be cut along my bikini line to pull out the uterus thankfully they were able to remove it all vaginally. Just the 5 port scars and obviously the internal stitches to heal from. Feeling a little sore today, but i haven't had any pain relief since midday yesterday (not a fan of codeine etc), and apart from terrible gas pains yesterday from the air pumped into me, it really wasn't too bad. I'm back to the hospital 10th March to find out whether i need more treatment or not. But for now, i will take the time to rest and not have to worry about work etc for a little while. Thanks everyone for your well wishes, they were most appreciated.
